Program Overview

Apex School of Theology offers a Master of Art in Christian Counseling. The M.A. in Christian Counseling students are a diverse group who display essential qualities of wisdom, maturity and skills necessary for excellence in the field of counseling. Most have an undergraduate background in psychology or sociology, a strong interest in behavioral science, or significant life experience in the field. Whether students are seasoned in the field or moving into a second career, the M.A. in Christian Counseling degree will provide excellent preparation for Christian and/or secular employment opportunities.

In order to graduate with a Master of Christian Education Degree students must successfully complete 66 credit hours, including all core and elective courses for Masters of Christian Education Degree. The Master of Arts in Christian Counseling (MACC) program is designed to provide graduate coursework to those seeking to integrate their Christian faith with sound clinical practice in counseling. The program emphasizes the development of research supported counseling skills while encouraging students to reflect on their personal values, and to grow in faith and maturity.

The MACC program prepares students to work in churches, church-related institutions, Christian counseling clinics and in secular counseling facilities. Students have access to the admission policy of ASOT as found in the Graduate Student Handbook. Assessment forms and records are kept on file to assess that procedures are in place for monitoring how special students are benefited and serviced. When a student does not meet all the graduates standards for admission or its equivalent, the student must demonstrate the ability to benefit from the educational programs offered by Apex School of Theology. Life experience will also be considered.

    Apex School of Theology, Durham, NC accreditation is granted through Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, (TRACS). TRACS is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).


    Apex School of Theology offers a Master of Art in Christian Counseling. In order to graduate with a Master of Christian Education Degree, the student must meet the following requirements:
    1. Successfully complete ninety (66) credit hours including all core and or electives for Masters of Christian Education Degree.

    The ASOT provides theological education to prepare clergy and laity for service in churches, Christian ministries and the community. The institution’s educational programs are intended to increase the student’s level of knowledge, as well as remain committed to maintaining its diverse student body, faculty and staff. The institution’s history is grounded in the African-American religious experience.

    The educational and service programs provide theological education and training to a constituency of mature, bi-vocational, and commuting students. These services are intended to enhance the student’s skills, and expand the student’s awareness, as well as broaden the student’s perspective quality of life. The curriculum is designed and implemented to prepare the clergy and laity for various ministries in theology and general education.
