Program Overview

Angelo State University offers a Master of Security Studies degree in Security Studies for students and professionals within the security industry who are interested in learning about the issues involved in promoting local, national, and international security in the protection of people and property. Students will learn about information technology and the use of computer information systems and protection of critical infrastructure and information as well as procedural and human management of security. Through the program, students will develop knowledge and expertise in criminal justice, law enforcement, and security services.

Students will learn about advanced topics in security development, including policy and strategic development of security. Those classes include introduction to security systems, research methodologies in security studies, grand strategy and national strategy, globalization and international security, intelligence and national security, terrorism and national security, rogue nations and national security, weak and failing states and national security, homeland security studies, human rights and national security, energy security studies, and transnational issues and national security.

Upon completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the necessary educational and professional qualifications necessary for advanced roles within security agencies and organizations.  These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to explain concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and trends in security issues, to demonstrate an understanding of the sociological, societal, and psychological aspects of criminology and of security issues, and to demonstrate an understanding of the theories, procedures, and practices of law enforcement and security personnel.
