Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction
Angelo State University offers a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction for students and professionals in education who are interested in developing their understanding of advanced teaching and design of plans to influence education. Students will develop advanced strategies and specialized knowledge in the creation of plans for learning, instruction, grading, and assessment of activities. Through learning and organizational theory, students will garner expertise in research and practices in curriculum design, teacher development and program assessment.
The program consists of classroom courses which emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education which will be applicable on the job. Those classes include curriculum development, social and cultural influences, tests and measurements, life span development, applied research, legal and ethical principles, learning theories, instructional issues, problems of instructional supervision, content area instruction, and an optional teaching internship and clinical teaching practicum in order to become certified in teaching
Upon completion of the program, students will have demonstrated necessary educational and professional qualifications for advanced roles in curriculum development and instruction, in addition to possible certification in teaching. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to treat students equitably, recognizing the individual differences that distinguish one student from another and adjusting their practice based on observation and knowledge of their students’ interests, abilities, skills, knowledge, family circumstances, and peer relationships, and to create multiple paths to the subjects through knowledge of how the subject is created, organized, linked to other disciplines, and applied to real-world settings.
