The Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree offered by Anderson University in South Carolina is a program of study that is ideal for working professionals who wish to earn a degree and still attend to their current responsibilities. This program includes topics such as the history of the correctional systems and their practices, and the law and how it applies to criminal procedure and justice, and measurement, causes, and characteristics of crime. Other concepts, skills, and knowledge that students in this program have the opportunity to acquire include: the basics of arrest, search, and seizure, juvenile delinquency, and the moral, ethical, and religious issues that relate to criminal justice. Students will also learn about psychology, physiology, and legal aspects relating to drugs.
This program aims to prepare students for careers in a variety of fields relating to criminal justice. There are two concentrations: Law Enforcement and Homeland Security/Emergency Preparedness. Specifically, this program is for first time college students who do not have an extensive academic background in criminal justice. Graduates of this program and this specific concentration should be prepared to take on positions with local, state, and federal government agencies. These include homeland security agencies, emergency preparedness agencies, city and state police, sheriff departments, probation and parole departments, FBI, and more. The law enforcement concentration prepares graduates for many of the same positions, as well as correctional institutions, juvenile justice agencies, and private or industrial security.
This program requires students to complete 123 credit hours of courses in order to graduate with the Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree. Students must take 42 credit hours of general education courses, 42 credit hours of criminal justice courses, and 27 credit hours in general electives.
