Master of Divinity In Marriage and Family Therapy
Amridge University offers a Master of Divinity in Marriage and Family Therapy for students who are interested in providing counseling services for individuals, groups, and families as a part of a career in service in a ministry. The program links extensive studies in biblical text, preparation in theology and various areas in practical ministry with the foundations for marriage and family therapy theory, scientific research, and clinical practice. It is intended to be utilized to prepare students for counseling, ministry, or therapy services, with licensure as a counselor, and as a foundation for future post-graduate and doctoral studies.
The program consists of classroom courses which emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and other real-world examples in education which will be applicable on the job. Those classes include hermeneutics, critical introduction the old testament, critical introduction to the new testament, spiritual leadership, homiletics, synthesis of theological curriculum, ethics and professional identity, community and social systems, theories of counseling and psychotherapy, theories of marriage and family therapy, human development, human sexual development, theories of personality development, marriage and family development, social and multicultural diversity, basic counseling techniques in helping relationships and interpersonal and family dynamics.
