Program Overview

Amridge University offers a Master of Arts in Theological and Historical Studies for individuals of the church and ministry who want to become effective Christian ministers and church leaders. Students will learn how history and theology can help them proclaim the gospel, strengthen the church, and serve humanity. The program is oriented towards biblical study and application of study toward contemporary life.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and other real-world examples in education that will be applicable on the job. Classes include an introduction to pastoral counseling, leadership visualization and values, organizational communication, spiritual leadership within the organization, introduction to missiology, Christian ministry, Christian marriage and family life, introduction to Christian counseling, personal evangelism, ministry and the contemporary world, church growth through Bible school evangelism, systematic theology, and spirituality and spiritual formation.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to have earned their degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles learned in the program.

These qualifications include the ability to demonstrate survey knowledge of theological and historical studies necessary to be effective as a Christian minister and church leader; to show skills in biblical interpretation that will allow for a biblical orientation for use of theological and historical studies as a Christian minister or church leader; to demonstrate skills in Christian ministry for applications in strengthening the church and serving humanity; and to develop a scholarly, theological, and reflective foundation that will be the basis for advanced study in ministry or divinity.

    School Overview

    Amridge University is a private, non-profit university that is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Amridge University was founded in 1967, in Montgomery, AL and was originally known as the Alabama Christian School of Religion. Throughout its history, Amridge University has primarily served as a theological seminary, training ministers in Bible and Christian counseling, but has expanded its educational programs over the years and now offers additional degrees, all of which are taught from a Christian perspective. Amridge’s Turner School of Theology is a central part of the university and offers all levels of degrees in ministry and theology.

    Primarily a distance learning university offering all of its programs online, Amridge University also offers classes at its 9-acre campus, located in Montgomery, Alabama. The Amridge campus consists of a single structure, known as the Morgan W. Brown Building that contains the universities classrooms, library and administrative offices. Satellite campuses exist in Nashville, Tennesee, and Phoenix, Arizona.
