Bachelor Of Science: Public Safety And Homeland Security
Amridge University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Safety and Homeland Security for students who are interested in working within the Department of Homeland Security or other organizations responsible for providing national security services. The program integrates courses in psychological assessment, investigation techniques, interrogation laws and procedures, and interrelationships with other agencies in homeland security in order to develop the student’s basic knowledge of procedure and structures within homeland security.
The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and other real-world examples in education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include an introduction to public safety and security, introduction to information security, crisis negotiation and intervention mechanics, crisis negotiation and intervention psychological aspects, domestic terrorism and hate crimes, investigating terrorism, terrorism risk assessment, tuition assessment, psychology and sociology of terrorism, homeland security overview, criminal investigation, criminal law, terrorism today, and incident command systems.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to have earned their degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they learned in the program into their development as a functional and affective professional in their field.
These qualifications include the ability to demonstrate knowledge of national security issues, to demonstrate knowledge of the procedures for crisis management, negotiation, and interrogation, to demonstrate acquired skills and knowledge in general education areas that are a foundation to life skills and further education, to demonstrate basic knowledge of management principles and supervision, to develop a basic understanding of procedures for assessing terrorist activity and potential for covert and overt actions, and to develop basic skills in communicating in crisis situations.
