Program Overview

Amridge University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Safety and Homeland Security for students who are interested in working within businesses, government, and other organizations providing security services. The program integrates psychological assessment, criminal justice, organization, communication, and leadership as part of the factors for development of a foundation in the skills necessary to work in the security industry.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and other real-world examples in education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include an introduction to information security, introduction to public safety and security, psychology and sociology of terrorism, criminal investigation, criminology, criminal law, white collar crime, principles of assets protection, risk analysis and security survey, emergency decision making and problem solving, emergency preparedness planning for corporations, security systems and technology, industrial espionage, and business and organizational security overview.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to have earned their degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they learned in the program into their development as a functional and affective professional in their field.

These qualifications include the ability to develop an informed concept of the legal issues, restrictions, and strategies for deterring, preventing or neutralizing attempts to illegally acquire or destroy physical of rascal assets, to demonstrate knowledge of operating private security systems in coordination with and with the support of law enforcement agencies, to demonstrate the skills and knowledge in general education areas that are the foundation to life skills and further education, to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of asset assessment and security arrangements, to develop a basic understanding of the criminal justice system and its implications for security procedures, and to develop an understanding of the application of technology in security systems and operations.

    School Overview

    Amridge University is a private, non-profit university that is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Amridge University was founded in 1967, in Montgomery, AL and was originally known as the Alabama Christian School of Religion. Throughout its history, Amridge University has primarily served as a theological seminary, training ministers in Bible and Christian counseling, but has expanded its educational programs over the years and now offers additional degrees, all of which are taught from a Christian perspective. Amridge’s Turner School of Theology is a central part of the university and offers all levels of degrees in ministry and theology.

    Primarily a distance learning university offering all of its programs online, Amridge University also offers classes at its 9-acre campus, located in Montgomery, Alabama. The Amridge campus consists of a single structure, known as the Morgan W. Brown Building that contains the universities classrooms, library and administrative offices. Satellite campuses exist in Nashville, Tennesee, and Phoenix, Arizona.
