In 1971, Abilene Christian University established a second campus in Mesquite, Texas, that ultimately fulfilled the demands of an adult education program. The campus relocated to Garland, Texas in 1974, and gained accreditation by 1981, becoming the independent Amber University. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the University adopted a new official name, Amberton University. Today, Amberton University maintains the five-acre main campus as well as an extended campus in Frisco. Both campuses continue to target the needs of adult learners, fostering both traditional and online learning environments.
Students can earn degrees online at Amberton University. Online coursework reflects the same standards and is taught by the same faculty that provide on-campus instruction. Amberton University specializes programs to fit the needs of adult students that often have busy schedules and do not qualify for federal financial aid. Courses are formatted in 10-week sessions, offered four times per year. Students can attend on-campus evening or weekend classes, or enroll in online programs. Students can also choose blended formats, combining online and on-campus learning. Furthermore, individual classes rotate between on-campus and online formats, to provide greater flexibility.
