Alvin Community College offers an Associates of Arts – General Liberal Arts degree that gives students a wide range of academic experience to prepare them for advanced study. This program is for students that wish to transfer into a 4-year baccalaureate degree or who may be undecided about their long-term educational goals. It can also be of great use to those who may simply wish to explore a variety of academic options or further their individual growth through education. Alvin has created an Associate's Degree program that is incredibly versatile, allowing students to experience all of the major liberal arts specializations over the course of two semesters. This degree will give students the opportunity and means to pursue further academic study in such fields as art, economics, journalism, psychology or education.
The academic program consists of 65 to 67 credits and must be completed over the span of 2 years. These credits consist of a combination of coursework and hands-on lab studies. This degree has been specially constructed to allow students the broadest range of studies to achieve future success in advanced learning. The curriculum covers English, math, history and sciences courses that most four-year institutions or universities require in the first 2 years of enrollment. It is advised that individuals who have specific academic goals in mind speak to one of Alvin’s many academic advisors who can be reached in person, over the phone or online. Students have the choice of attending the school’s campus located in the heart of Alvin, Texas or completing courses entirely online through the user-friendly MyBlackboard learning system.

Alvin Community College, founded in 1948, began as an extension of Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas. Now the college sits on 113 acres, and students can pursue Associate's degrees and certificate programs. Alvin Community College supports nearly forty degree options, ranging from studies in Criminal Justice and Computer Information Technology to degrees in Psychology, Nursing, and Music. For added flexibility, Alvin Community College offers a select number of programs online and provides additional distance learning options. Alvin Community College supports online learning, in addition to hybrid online/on-campus coursework. Online quality and standards meet that of on-campus counterparts.
In addition to degree programs, Alvin Community College maintains a Continuing Education and Workforce Development division that promotes professional and career training programs, along with special interest and personal enrichment classes. Many of these programs are also available online for added flexibility.
