Program Overview

For students that are looking to pursue a well-rounded academic program but do not have specific focus goals, Alvin Community College offers an Associates of Arts in General Studies degree. This baccalaureate program allows students to enroll in a wide variety of general courses such as mathematics, science, arts, humanities and computer literacy. The program is a great fit for students who wish to pursue an academic degree for personal enrichment or potential entry into many careers that require a baccalaureate degree. It also has the potential to meet base requirements for more advanced degrees in the arts department. Students that have an interest in eventually transferring credits to another degree are advised to speak with one of Alvin’s many academic advisors before enrolling and selecting courses.

This program requires a minimum of 41 credit hours and can be completed completely online. Students will be able to access classes through the MyBlackboard learning system. Alvin’s online program is great for students who wish to achieve their degree but require flexibility. Classes are also available on the Alvin Community College campus located in Alvin, Texas. Students also have the option of mixing on-campus classes and online courses in order to fully customize their learning experience. The college also has several scholarship and enrichment programs that students can apply to for financial assistance.

    School Overview

    Alvin Community College, founded in 1948, began as an extension of Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas. Now the college sits on 113 acres, and students can pursue Associate's degrees and certificate programs. Alvin Community College supports nearly forty degree options, ranging from studies in Criminal Justice and Computer Information Technology to degrees in Psychology, Nursing, and Music. For added flexibility, Alvin Community College offers a select number of programs online and provides additional distance learning options. Alvin Community College supports online learning, in addition to hybrid online/on-campus coursework. Online quality and standards meet that of on-campus counterparts. 

    In addition to degree programs, Alvin Community College maintains a Continuing Education and Workforce Development division that promotes professional and career training programs, along with special interest and personal enrichment classes. Many of these programs are also available online for added flexibility.
