Allen County Community College
Allen County Community College offers a Pharmacy Technician certificate for students and professionals in pharmacies or drug stores who want to develop their understanding of the technical services involved in pharmacy related acts. This may include the dispensing of medicine to patients, doctors, hospitals, and other services that involve the distribution and application of medication. Students will prepare for entry-level positions in pharmacies and certification in pharmaceuticals as technicians.
Students will study a curriculum that emphasizes the practical responsibilities and knowledge necessary for technical roles in pharmaceutical disbursement. Those classes include introduction to pharmacy technical services, business mathematics, introduction to computers, principles of biology, legal concepts, pharmacology for pharmacy technicians, medical terminology, business communications, human anatomy and physiology, and pharmacy calculations.
Upon completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the necessary educational qualifications for roles in entry-level positions as pharmaceutical technicians. These qualifications include the ability to understand how the concepts of health and wellness relate to health promotion and disease prevention; being able to critically appraise the context and quality of healthcare delivery within and outside of the United States; applying epidemiological approaches to the study of patterns of disease and injury in populations; understanding how technology, legal, ethical issues impact the delivery of healthcare services; articulating critical issues in acute and long-term care from the perspectives of patient and practitioner; and assessing public and global health issues that transcend national borders, class, race, ethnicity, and culture.
