Health Care Specialist
Allen County Community College offers a Healthcare Specialist Certificate program for students who are interested in developing skills necessary to assist in medical services within health care organizations. Students will develop fundamental skills in medicine in a curriculum that will prepare the student medical assistant positions.
Students will develop their understanding of the responsibilities of assistants in health care services through the curriculum. Those classes include certified nurse aide, medical terminology, first aid and safety, social services designee and activities director, legal concepts, certified medication aide, rehabilitation aide, certified home health aide, long-term care medical records, and medical office accounting.
Students completing the program will have demonstrated the necessary education and qualifications for medical assistant roles in healthcare organizations. These qualifications include the ability to utilize critical thinking when managing care for groups of individuals and families in a variety of health care settings; to apply effective communication skills to establish and maintain therapeutic and professional relationships in managing care for groups of individuals and families in a variety of healthcare settings; to utilize principles of human development when providing nursing care for groups of individuals and families across the life span; to incorporate knowledge of cultural and socioeconomic factors in the management of nursing care for groups of individuals and families in a variety of healthcare settings.
