Students pursuing degrees in Education can specialize in several concentrations within the area of study. The field of Education is constantly in need of well trained and educated individuals to further teach an impressionable younger student body the core fundamentals in academics. Education degrees concentrations can be in elementary, secondary or post-secondary, special needs, technology or counseling and administrative roles.
A specific area of study in an Education degree program is in K-12 education or kindergarten thru secondary education. K-12 is an education level that includes elementary school all the way through junior high, middle school and high school. Most children enroll in elementary school starting with kindergarten (usually five to six years old) and finish secondary education with twelfth grade (usually eighteen years old). Education in elementary settings can range from public schooling, private institutions or home schooling. Student teachers will be responsible for creating lesson plans, disciplinary actions, fostering creativity as well as exude proper ethics and professional behavior.
