The WebBSIT is rigorous. Some students from this program told me that they like the program very much. They especially like the flexibility of working on the courses any time, any where. The professors are knowledgeable and care about the students.
I have been enrolled since 2005 and it provides me a chance to get a degree while working and taking care of family. I am in the WebBSIT program and if I could change anything it would be better textbooks for WebBSIT. We have access to forums and instructors. However, I have found the textbooks to be difficult to follow. Sometimes the textbook used for the same class on campus is WAY BETTER than the textbook for the online class. I think this should be the other way around since we are not physically in front of the instructors. Or use the books that the same class is using on campus. Overall I love this school and the program.
The only thing I have a real problem with is that the fees for attending online school is way too much. I am taking 2 ecore classes in the fall. The classes cost between 1000 and 1100 dollars. The fees are between another 400 and 500 dollars. This is crazy. Can anyone tell me why a online student has to pay parking fees to a school that I will never drive to, or why the administration fees for the school is another 300 dollars? I can understand the 75 dollars technology fee.
WebBSIT is one of the best online, distance education program that enable several students both young and old, to attend college. It is especially good for those that have full time job and / or with families. From my experience, WebBSIT students acquire the same skill and knowledge just like the traditional students, if not better, because they go through more rigorous academic drills. I love this program and I have been enrolled since Summer 2009. This is my 7th semester taking WebBSIT courses. I will recommend it to teeming population of technologically inclined people who are stucked with their full-time job or family but want to attend college.
All the Professors are highly knowledgable, patient, flexible, and responsive to students issues or concerns in good time.
For the most part, the program offers good learning experiences. There have been a couple of courses where I felt the instructor was biased as to the letter grade they issue for their particular course.
I would recommend some sort of online tutoring for the IT courses offered in the program. Online tutoring is available for core courses, just not for IT. I like that I can attend courses at my convenience and this past year there have been some good changes in the program.
Another online school I attended prior to WebBsit delivered the electronic version of the course text with the class at no additional charge. It would be nice to have a similar offering with this program (even if there was a small charge involved).
Most issues seem to occur due to communication. For example, there is an academic adivser, a home institute online representative, ecore administrator, etc. (many people in different areas dealing with traditional and online students who may or may not be privy to a given situation...what a mess!) Additionally, one person may tell you one thing; another something completely different.
The administrator of the course has been super helpful this year whenever I had issues. My hat goes off to her for the great job she is doing! Keep up the good work! I am sure we will see more improvements this year as well!
I’m impressed with the on-line program offered through SPSU. This method of study has required a lot self-study instead of the spoon-feed lectures in the traditional class room. With a full-time job, it has allowed me to contenently attend school in my own home, without the time and cost of travel to and from the local campus.
This is one of the earliest online degree programs in Information Technology around the nation. With six universities in the University System of Georgia involved in this program, each campus offers its best instructors and expertise so the WebBSIT program has a "best from the best" faculty with a well-designed curriculum following ACM/IEEE model computing curriculum. All six universities in the WebBSIT Consortium have their own on-campus IT degree programs accredited by ABET and SACS. Graduates from this WebBSIT program have been employed in various types of IT enterprises and have very successful careers. Another thing I want to add is that students are really well-advised through campus advisor and the system office coordinator. Students will develop a degree completion plan in the first semester. Before the registration period, students will receive a package of course information and instructions on how to register. The faculty and staff are dedicated to student's success. I'm sure you will have a great learning experience in thie WebBSIT program.
For the most part, the teachers are very helpful and knowledgeable. Most are wiling to help.
The only bad thing is if you are really struggling and need in-person one on one assistance, it is EXTREMELY difficult to find.
