I completed my online degree after a long period of time away from school. Pros are that the degree is manageable and flexible from a time perspective and they (TESC) seems to be generous in credit transfers. Cons are that some students and professors don't show high degrees of commitment and the Blackboard online learning system is less than robust.
Excellent school. I was 44 when I went back to school and needed 60 credits to graduate. Between the online courses and the prior learning and the ability to test out of classes I was able to accomplish this in just under 4 years. When my father passed away I was able to sit out for six months while I got all of his affairs in order. As someone working a full time job the flexibility and the quality of the education are second to none. I would highly recommend TESC to anyone looking for a quality education at an affordable price.

I haven't attended this school, but I hear good things about it. I'm currently taking classes for a online Christian college and that's going great for me. If you don't have the time to attend actual classes I suggest taking online courses.

TESC is a great school for someone that does not want to be tied down to a campus based program. The classes are very challenging and the interactive online format worked well for me. In fact, I preferred that format because I am organized and independent in my studies. There are a few things to keep in mind if you consider the school. 1) it is fully accredited and quite challenging academically 2) the online format requires someone who is self-motivated and able to learn by reading and conducting research on their own as instructors are not there to explain things to you 3) you need to be organized enough to follow the class guidelines yourself to keep up with the accelerated pace of a 12 week semester instead of 16 week semester and 4) the administration staff are good at following directions but do not hold your hand through the process, so you have to read the materials very carefully on your own before contacting them. Overall, this is a great school and I highly recommend it.

I highly recommend TESC. The counselors were extremely helpful in helping me finish my program.

You're forgetting Charter Oak State College in Connecticut. It's the third of the "Big Three" schools that operate like TESC and Excelsior with those incredibly convenient transfer policies. You can get credit for courses you've taken before, IT certifications, military training, and other kinds of experiences and as with the other two schools there's no limit. I got my Bachelor's from Charter Oak a few years ago and was amazed by how good the customer service was. You should check them out before you decide!
Good luck - Steve -

I have attended Thomas Edison & Excelsior and both were OK. I preferred the SUNY degree at Empire State College because of the brand recognition.

I am trying to decide between Excelsior College (NY) and Thomas Edison State College (NJ). My primary concern is to gain the most credit for old transfer credits AND pick up credit for all my professional certifications in computer networks and operations + some programming for business apps. The two schools, according to GetEducated's articles, specialize in maximum credit policies for old guys like me. They are both fairly affordable state colleges. Others must have made the choice between these 2 schools. Looking for some students to comment on this school vs. Excelsior for BSBA.
