The Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) MBA is a traditional Masters of Business program with little emphasis emerging global, collaborative, and new economy business practices. That being said, do not let that me a deterrent if you are drawn to the Accounting field. Especially if you would like to focus on accounting forensics.
With several course offerings in accounting forensics, fraud examination, and auditing systems and controls, this CPA Exam preparatory course electives are a good FIT for the accounting major!
Having just completed an MSISE degree at UF, I transferred four of the business classes from that program to the FIT MBA in Project Management program. I found the Internet format at Florida Tech University Online extremely convenient yet current and rigorous. The automated content delivery assured a uniform quality regardless of professor while still allowing the professor adequate tailored interaction with the students. The intuitive University Alliance Web interface software made the operational aspects of learning easy. The books were good to excellent quality and at the proper academic level.
At no time did I feel that I did not get my money's worth. I admit that my employer paid for all but the last three classes and would have financed those but for budget cuts. You can probably beat the price but not the quality and convenience of this program. I expect to sit for the Project Management Professional (PMP) examination later this year. This program helped me along the way to that next goal.
One major benefit of this format versus live classes involves the variety of students. I encountered students from all over the country and a few in other countries, all in a wide range of industries and ages. A good chunk of the benefit of this program comes from those discussion boards where we all learn from each other.
The school just earned its Global Accreditation Center (GAC) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) which enhances its credibility. It still works on AACSB accreditation and expects eventually to garner it. This is a serious school and not a diploma mill. I would consider using their services again if needed.
With my company's tuition reimbursement, the total cost of the MBA program will be approximately $15,000. I went to a big name school for my undergraduate, and you'll get more of the same here. Some people are just trying to get by, while others are trying to get the most out of the program.
I really liked that this program graded around projects, tests/quizzes, and weekly discussions. It is not as writing intensive as other online MBA programs.
