DePaul University SNL program is a joke! The education is slightly above 9th grade and way under my local coummnity college. Please go to Yelp.com and read the many terrible reviews on this school. You will see people calling this school a diploma mill, which it is. Also, DePaul University has caused many students a lot of stress with their diploma mill behavior. In fact, many students on Yelp.com are calling the school a diploma mill because they will accept anyone regardless of their intelligence, which is why the school does not require an ACT or SAT score to be admitted. This is also why the Chicago Sun-Times ran the cover story “DePaul dumbs down by dropping exams”. So please do not enroll at DePaul. The school has a terrible reputation! The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) recently gave DePaul University graduate elementary program an ” F” grade, while the undergraduate elementary program barely managed a C+. In addition, the school DID NOT rank in USNEWS &World Report Top 130 Best National Universities, but is ranked #359 in Forbes Best College rankings. The school also is ranked #8 on The Princeton Review list of Not So Great Financial Aid. So do you think this school is worth $30,000 a year? Northern Illinois University (NIU) in-state tuition is under $11,500 a year. The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in-state tuition is just over $13,000 a year. And Southern Illinois (SIU) in-state tuition is just over $10,500 a year. I wish someone would have warned me about DePaul University.

I really feel I had the best possible experience as student in the DePaul SNL program. I worked very hard during my time at SNL to achieve some personal goals that I had not reached in my earlier college career. Going back to school changed my life, and the SNL program made it possible. Creating my own Individualized Focus Area allowed me to take my degree path very personally and very seriously. I became a more focused, more motivated student at SNL, and was encouraged to achieve my personal best. I’m very proud of my work at SNL and thrilled at the doors that have opened because of my education. Before SNL, I never thought I’d complete my Bachelor’s degree, and now I’m getting my Master’s.

I had a fabulous experience at SNL. The program was a bit confusing at first since they don’t go by a structured credit hour plan. But I liked how I got to choose whatever classes I wanted to take. I took some classes online and some on-campus. I personally preferred the in-person interaction better, but the online classes were very convenient and the instructors were attentive and helpful. Whenever I applied for a scholarship, I received it, making the cost manageable. I was also able to find about 80% of my text books at the Chicago Public Library, so costs of materials were a minimum. I graduated in 2008 and am now about to graduate from my masters program. I can honestly say that SNL prepared me better than I could’ve possibly expected for grad school because frankly, SNL classes are tough. But I know I received a solid education, and grad school classes aren’t as challenging as they would be if I didn’t take those tough classes at SNL. In addition to the education, SNL helped me grow up a. I left with a BA from DePaul University and a much bigger sense of the world. I participate in SNL alumni forums and I rarely hear anything negative about alumni experiences at SNL. The only not-so-positive thing I can say is that some professors/faculty/instructors aren’t as good as others. But, I suppose that should be expected. I read the previous comments and the one from Coolguy blew my mind. I actually experienced some personal/health obstacles while attending that made it impossible to finish some classes. But, my instructors and the Exceptions Committee worked with me and gave me fair grades once I turned the work in (which was well after the classes had ended). I’m very pleased with my undergraduate experience at SNL. I wouldn’t trade it for any other.

I have nothing but high regard for the DePaul SNL program. I believe it works very well for those individuals who do not need a classroom environment to excel. I tried school as a younger person and did not have the success I have achieved at SNL. I am glad a good friend encouraged me to make the step and it has been a rewarding experience every since.

I like the SNL program at DePaul. It has given the opportunity to attend college and I would recommend this program to anyone seeking an online degree. However, I think the program has some flaws. One, there is an EXTREME lack of online degree options and coursework. The best SNL courses are on-campus. The cost is the next flaw. The cost is too close to what graduate school costs are.It is just too high for working adults in this economy and there is NOT ENOUGH financial aid and scholarship options for adult students. Another flaw is that the minimum credits for graduation are too high for adult students seeking a career change. Adults do not have the luxury of time as do younger students with fewer responsibilities. Transfers allowed are too few which delays graduation and the Transfer Coursework Assessment Forms are too time consuming and subjected to too many restricitions for adult students. I think if the school would just change these things it is my belief SNL would be the best online school globally.
