Like everyone out there, I was looking for a cost effective MBA program. An online search brought me to CSC and I was impressed with their webpage and cost structure. I am currently taking classes at CSC and want to share with everyone my experiences so far.
The admissions process, registrars office, financial aid, and bookstore all have been fabulous, no issues at all, I would give them an A+.
The Graduate School office staff is very friendly on the phone, when you can get through to them. They have been moderately helpful but pretty slow to get back to you either by phone or email. I suspect they may be a bit overloaded with new students. They are also not terribly knowledgeable about the program. Typically they will defer you to the instructors for questions. Overall I would give them a B-.
I was assigned an academic advisor in early in the process and I had several questions that I emailed to him. Several months later I have NEVER heard back from him. Follow up calls and emails have also gone unanswered. I also have never had my transcripts evaluated to determine which courses I may need to take. This process has gone on for months. The advising process at CSC I would give a well deserved F.
The class structure has also been a real disappointment for me so far. I must admit that these are my first online courses, but I expected a lot more interaction with the professors. Essentially this program is nothing more than independent study with a class webpage to submit homework and take quizzes and tests. There are no lectures or interaction with your instructor except by email; not my idea of a college class. I think of myself as a pretty good student (3.25GPA for my Undergraduate Degree), but this format is really tough! If you consider this online program, or any other for that matter, be sure to find out if they deliver any lecture material at all or rely solely on the textbook for learning.
Summary- If you are looking for the cheapest game in town and have had good success buying a textbook and challenging college courses, this program may be for you. But if you are really looking to save money then I would suggest you look at Wayne State College, Chadron's sister college. They too have an online MBA, taught exactly the same way for exactly the same price, but they only require 30 credits for the MBA, Chadron requires 36.
Good luck with your search.
