I also like that their program is geared developing a balance of industry-relevant practical skills and experience with Concentrations in: Data Mining and Data Warehousing. This program seems to have the courses necessary for students to become competent in the high-demand fields of information technology. However, what I do not like is that a student must have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or in a related field. For those students, regular admission requirements make it easy to get into the program. Post On: December 28, 2011 Grade: B- I like the Master of Science in Computer Science degree program at Columbus State University because of its affordability. I do not like navigating through their website to find information of this degree, which would be helpful to students listed in one place. They also have more application requirements then other programs such as $40 non-refundable application fee, verification and proof of lawful presence, Certificate of Immunization (doesn’t seem necessary for an online class). In addition, a student must have a B grade or better in CPSC 6105 and CPSC 6106, and e test scores from the GRE, GMAT, MAT or other standardize test as required by the individual degree program of 50 percent. Furthermore, online student must have the ability to administer their systems, install and configure their own software. No support is provided to help manage personal systems or software. Students must provide personally licensed copies of required software. Exams may be computerized. Each student is responsible for locating and arranging an approved proctor to administer all examinations. These proctor exams cost run approximately 25 dollars. There is little information on the curriculum studied on the college website.
Post On: December 28, 2011 Grade: A The Master of Science in Computer Science degree program at Minot State University is very affordable. I like this program because it is completed entirely online and flexible to finish in as little as two semesters, and the graduate student research assistantships - research assistantships availability.
I do not like navigating through their website to find information of this degree, which would be helpful to students listed in one place. I also like their application requirements such as a minimum undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75, an application, and an essay. Furthermore, this university allows a student enrollment with any of the following Undergraduate degree in CIS or MIS or Undergraduate degree in business, plus additional undergraduate MIS courses or Undergraduate degree, plus additional undergraduate business and MIS courses or Undergraduate degree, experience in MIS, plus additional undergraduate courses depending upon undergraduate degree. This allows student who have graduate with a bachelor degree in business management the ability to enter their program without additional coursework.
Post On: December 28, 2011 Grade: A I like that the Master of Science in Computer Science degree program at Jacksonville State University because its affordability. Their admission application requires a $30 non-refundable fee. There is also a Graduate Assistantship position for online students that pay tuition for six (6) graduate semester hours per fall and spring semesters and a total of six (6) graduate semester hours during the summer terms. This type of assistantship is rarely available for online students at other universities. Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: B What I really liked about the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program at Western Oregon University is that it is designed so it can be completed in one year at fulltime. However, the program is also designed specifically for individuals currently working in the field of criminal justice to advance their professional careers more than it serves to provide the fundamentals in criminal justice. In addition, I like that a students can begin the program during any academic term and that they may enter the program with less than a 3.0 GPA if they score a 395 or higher on the MAT exam, a 450 or higher on the Verbal and Quantitative exam and a 3.5 or higher on Analytical Writing exam. What I do not like about this program is that beyond the Criminal Justice Graduate Program Application and transcripts the student must present a biographical letter explaining why you are seeking a graduate degree and how it meets your professional or academic goals and a current resume.
Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: C What I really liked about the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program at California University of Pennsylvania is that it is designed for a multitude of opportunities in the criminal and civil justice systems including policing, law, corrections, investigations or human service positions. What I do not like about this program is there is little or no information available on this programs cost or eligibility. The little I could find was that one general application is used for all graduate programs yet they admission requirements vary by program. Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: B+ The Masters of Public Health tuition fee has gone up to 322 per credit unit for the 2012 terms at University of Illinois at Springfield, which is still affordable. However, what I do not like is that there is also an online course 25 fee per hour. What’s more, admissions to this program is only twice yearly making it more difficult for students currently enrolled in a quarterly program. In addition, I do not like the three letters of recommendation requirement as part of their admission requirements. From my experience as an online student, I have found that instructors are hesitant to write recommendations to online students because they feel like they do not know them well enough. What I do like is that the Illinois Public Health Association offers three scholarships for the 2012-13 academic years for qualified graduate students in Public Health and their curriculum. Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: C+ I do not like that the online Masters of Science Management program at Boston University is not made affordable to students. I also don’t like that I had a hard time just locating this program offered at this university. I could not navigate to their online programs for their home site. Instead, I had to use Google search engine to find it. In addition, a potential student cannot just simple look to see if the meet the admission requirement as each Boston University online program has specific application requirements and procedures, so a student must contact admissions representatives to gain information. This to me is an indication that the learning through their online network will be difficult at best. In contrast, I do like that Boston University offers a course demo to see gain information about a program and that it offers graduate degrees in management that are specialized by industry or tailored toward a particular area of focus. I also like that this university offers a yearly $5,500 scholarship to graduate students who are women over 30 with no full time requirements. Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: A I do like the unique degree program of Master of Agriculture offered at Colorado State University. Their program specializes in environmental studies that help sustain natural resources for farmers, ranches, and rural communities. I also like that this program is affordable and that Colorado State University. I really like that there is no on-campus attendance required to complete this program. This program is projected for completion within two years, but a student may complete it earlier as that approximation did not take into consideration any summer coursework. Their curriculum applies to a number of careers in local, state and regional agencies dealing with land and resource management, such as the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service Wildlife and forest management. I also like that one of the instructors uses a virtual field trips as a support tool for classes. Each member of faculty seems high qualified in their area of expertise. While I like that they are on a semester system, this limits the admission to the program to two times a year. This program is explained in great detail to what the student should expect. I also like that completing the courses toward the degree is self-paced and self-directed. Moreover, that the completion of a professional paper (no thesis is required and students have the opportunity to one or two internships arranged and approved by your academic adviser.
Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: C- I do not like is that the degree program of Master of Arts in Urban Sustainability offered at Antioch University-Los Angeles is not affordable . What I like is Antioch University unique program specializes in urban environmental studies. Their program curriculum is unique as well offering theories and seminars during the first year, and hands on curriculum in the second year. However, this yearlong capstone project seems difficult to complete as an online student. In addition, I don’t care for their admission requirements which are not based on traditional criteria such as test scores, grade-point average and academic standing, but through a personal interview and through your written application and essay
Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: C- I do not like that the degree program of Master of Arts in Sustainability Business and Communities offered at Goddard College is not affordable . What I like is $1,000 scholarships and grants for new graduate students enrolling in the Spring 2012 semester. Still, they require a letter of recommendation from one of their department members and I am not sure how easy this is to obtain for a distant learner with no previous history associated with the college. Another nice aspect of this program is that new students are accepted every day for degree programs scheduled throughout the spring or fall semesters. The program’s curriculum will not help you gain employment in the environmental field; it seems to be a means for business managers to learn how to become more sustainable and I don’t like that it is not 100 percent online. Post On: December 27, 2011 Grade: A- I like that the Master of Science in Computer Science degree program at Fort Hays State University because it is affordable. However, what I do not like is that a student must have the fundamental expertise in Management Information Systems, programming, and networking. Therefore, without some non-graduate leveling courses in information technology this degree program may not be helpful. Yet for those with useful background knowledge this program could not be easier to get into with just an application and transcripts. Post On: December 26, 2011 Grade: A- What I really liked about Capella University is that they offer a free one-week online mini course for undergraduate and graduate students to try. This not only allows a student the ability to determine if the school curriculum is right for them, but also allows them to determine if they like their online format. In addition, this university offers several large grants to graduate students with one specific for their public health program. Still, the cost per credit unit for tuition of a Master Degree in Public Health is almost double the amount for the best affordable university. Another nice feature this university offers is the amount of information on any licensure need for specific professions holding this degree. What I dislike, is that they are on a quarter systems with only 10 weeks long terms instead of 12. This means a students must learn the same amount of material in a shorter period.
Post On: December 22, 2011 Grade: A- I really like every aspect of earning an online Masters Degree in Public Health from American Public University. While a few other universities offering this degree program at a lower overall tuition cost, American Public University program cost are reasonably, close. What’s more, their site is very easy to navigate age, an extremely important component, for online students. I also like how they have included their programs general information on one page including a breakdown of the program completion and tuition cost. They have embedded hyperlinks on their page that provides up- to –date statistical information on the jobs related to this program including type of work involved as well as expected growth rate through 2018. They have made applying to the graduate school easy as their application process is free and the admission requirements is a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. They also give students an option for completion with a comprehensive final examination, thesis option, or capstone/applied research project to fulfill each individual students needs. What I disliked is the lack of information regarding an internship and the experience a student would gain. ![]() Post On: December 21, 2011 Grade: C+ If I had the opportunity to choose an online business school again, I would not pick Southern Oregon University. Although the classes are affordable, there are fewer elective course options available for online students. What’s more, a student is required to take three general educations classes to complete their degree. This is made difficult by the lack of courses this university offers online, which often requires a student to prolong graduating until a course is made available. Since the professors at this university frown upon online course, the student is subjected to taking the only subject offered out of many courses that would have met the requirement. This is also typical of the online-required business courses that have been available in only one term per year. As a result, a student must wait for several terms to graduate. Finally, the business textbooks are expensive and I have never been able to sell them back either to the bookstore or any other place. Post On: December 21, 2011 Grade: A After reviewing several different Universities that offer a graduate studies in Environmental Science, American Public University is by far the most affordable. In fact, out of state students pay the same price per unit as state residents. This University has one of the best scholarship sites available to potential students looking for funding to help the pay for their education. Moreover, I was impressed by their undergraduate book loaning option, which further reduces the financial burden on their students. Finally, this University offers free registration and a wide assortment of online degrees. For those reasons, I would give them an A rating. Post On: December 21, 2011 Grade: A I like that the University of Missouri allows senior undergraduates the ability to take graduate classes. With that, a senior, who has limited course requirements left, can take a full course load of classes to help them reach their educational goal sooner by dual enrollment. Still, since their online courses are semester-based with a set start date and end, there could be a time laps between the start of their degree program with one from a differ institution. There graduate degrees are reasonably priced with an option for Graduate students in a degree-seeking program who hold a qualifying assistantship or fellowship the possibility to be eligible for a GSSP fee waiver, which waives their resident and non-resident (if applicable) tuition for courses which are applicable and relevant to the student’s degree program. This is definitely worth looking into. Post On: December 21, 2011 Grade: B+ This University one was one of the first institutions I considered for my graduates studies in Environmental Science because of the quality course work as well as the affordability. In particular, what I like was that their graduate program combines learning through both the textbook as well as through a student’s local ecosystems as use as a laboratory in which to gain hand on skills. However, what I disliked is that their Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES), which is offered as a web based distance-learning model, is that it requires a student to participate in two on-campus (Vermont) residencies. This would be a hardship for me as an out-of state student. Post On: December 21, 2011 Grade: A- This University offers a Master of Public Health degree that is both affordable and interesting. I really like its unique program that focuses on a broad range of health courses from the environment to social and behavioral sciences. This school would be ideal for a Florida resident that can take advantage of the internship/practicum opportunities the school offers with the local state public health agencies in the region as well as with area hospitals and the military. However, I do not like that out-of-area students have to arrange their own appropriate internship site approved by the M.P.H. I also do not care for a fee waiver system, for out of state students, that requires them to reapply. This University program has numerous admission requirements including a minimum score on one graduate admission test, Statement of Career Goals, two personal writing samples and three letters of recommendation to the MPH program making it a challenge to get in. ![]() Post On: April 14, 2011 Grade: A I really like the online business administration degree program offered at Southern Oregon University. Its flexibility and affordability makes it an ideal program for students who wish to pursue a business degree. The business director heading this online business administration program also acts as the student’s advisor. She is always available to help students with their academic needs to ensure their success. This includes providing additional online courses that meet the business degree requirements as well as providing contacts to employers looking to hire business students. In addition, many of the instructors teaching these business courses are former chief executive officers. As such, they are able to provide real world experience to the content of their course. I have truly had a wonderful learning experience earning my degree from this institution. Forum
