School Details
Western Kentucky University is a public university that is located on a 200-acre suburban campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Western Kentucky University was established in 1906 by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, although its roots go back a quarter-century earlier. WKU was originally established as one of the state’s two original teacher training institutes, also known as normal schools. The original name of WKU was the Western Kentucky State Normal School. Western Kentucky’s mission “prepares students to be productive, engaged, and socially responsible citizen-leaders of a global society” and the institution focuses on “research, service, and lifelong learning opportunities.”
Today, WKUl offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees, as well as associate degrees and certificate programs from the following colleges:

- Gordon Ford College of Business
- Ogden College of Science and Engineering
- Potter College of Arts and Letters
- College of Health and Human Services
In addition to on-campus coursework, Western Kentucky University has an online program that gives students the option of taking individual courses or earning their degree entirely online. WKU online degree program offers 1,000 web courses each year, and over 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs can be earned entirely online. Students can complete all of their general education requirements online.
