School Details

Walsh University, located on a 136 acre campus in North Canton, Ohio, is a private, 4-year Roman Catholic university.  Walsh University was initially founded as a liberal arts college in 1960 by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, and in 1993 it became Walsh University.  In addition to the main campus, Walsh also has satellite campus locations in Canfield, Medina and Springfield Township, Ohio, and in Castel Gandalfo, a town located outside of Rome, Italy.
Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled at Walsh, and the university offers bachelor degrees in more than 50 majors; master’s degrees in nursing, education, counseling and human development, theology, and business administration; and a doctorate degree in physical therapy.  An accelerated degree program is offered through the School for Professional Studies and combines interactive learning and accelerated courses into five and eight week sessions that are flexible and meet one night a week or on Saturdays.  An accelerated business program and an accelerated BSN for the RN program are offered.  The most popular academic majors at Walsh include psychology, health professions, education, business and biological and biomedical sciences.

The average student to faculty ration is 12 to 1, and approximately 65 percent of the classes at Walsh consist of less than 20 students.  The small academic environment at Walsh promotes academic excellence.  Walsh strives to develop the mind, body and spirit of its students and is committed to teaching its students to develop into leaders in service to others, and offers an education that is values-based with an international view point in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Walsh offers four study abroad programs: The Rome Experience, which teaches students to understand the impact of Rome on our past, and the role it plays in today’s global economy; Rome Summer, which is a shorter version of the Rome experience and focuses on communication and theology, and gives students the chance to explore Rome’s art, history and culture; Rome Summer MBA, which allows students to explore Italy’s tourism, healthcare and retail; and the Uganda Experience, through which students learn about Ugandan history, social institutions and traditions.

Walsh also offers social and educational programming through the Office of Student Activities that enhance the college life experience of its students.  Students can join one of Walsh’s 30 clubs and organizations, participate in intramural sports, develop their faith through Campus Ministry and connect with fellow students and the community by participating in service projects that include volunteering at area soup kitchens and schools and participating in community trips that occur during holiday breaks.  Campus Ministry at Walsh focuses on the spiritual and religious needs of students, alumni, faculty and staff, and offers services that include bible studies, prayer opportunities, community outreach initiatives, social gatherings and retreats.  The programs offered by the Campus Ministry are geared toward formation of faith, spiritual practices, community building and service and leadership development.

Walsh has a career center that assists with career coaching resume review, preparation for graduate school, on-campus interviews, mock interviews and maintains the College Central Network, which is an online database used by employers to post job opportunities and internships for students and alumni.
