The University of Maryland- Baltimore County (UMBC) was founded in 1966 as a division of The University of Maryland. It is a public research institution situated on a 500-acre campus three miles from the city limits of Baltimore. By combining research opportunities and a liberal arts education, UMBC strives to become a superior research institution.
