Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing
Duquesne University

Program Details

The online PhD in Nursing degree program curriculum reflects not only the national trends in nursing research, but also the faculty research agenda including vulnerable and underserved populations.  The intensive and rigorous curriculum is designed to engage students as nurse scholars.  Through applied research courses in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodologies, students learn to function as independent researchers.

The program’s goal is to ensure that all students are familiar with, and comfortable performing, intellectual inquiry, creative scholarship, and research within nursing.  Pre-doctoral funding is emphasized early on in this online nursing degree and all students write and defend a dissertation as a graduation requirement.  Graduates are prepared for successful careers in nursing education, research, and organizational leadership in the United States and abroad.

This flexible program features three-year and four-year curriculum options along with a DNP to PhD program that typically takes two-and-a-half years to complete.
