Rogers State University was established in 1909 and continues today as a public, co-educational institution located in the town of Claremore, Oklahoma.
Rogers State was founded as a state sponsored preparatory school called Eastern University Preparatory School. Later the institution transitioned into Oklahoma Military Academy and finally into a four-year university. The school also has branch campuses in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Pryor Creek, Oklahoma. In 1996, Rogers State was granted university status and became Rogers State University and was accreted by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and bachelor’s degrees.
Today, the school has a total enrollment of around 4,600 students. There are also many ways that students can get involved on-campus at RSU. There are around 30 registered student clubs and organizations that range from a variety of different interests to fit the needs of the students. Intramural sports are offered and Greek life is present at RSU. Prospective students who wish to apply to Rogers State can do so through the online application provided on the college’s website. Applicants can also print out and submit the application form from the website. Other required documents for submission include high school transcripts and test scores.
RSU offers 16 bachelor’s degrees in the following areas: Applied Technology, Biology, Business Administration, Business Information Technology, Communications, Community Counseling, Game Development, Justice Administration, Liberal Arts, Military History, Nursing, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, Social Science, Sports Management, and Visual Arts. RSU is the only university in Oklahoma to offer a bachelor's degree in military history. The school also offers an Elementary Education program in conjunction with Cameron University. In addition to the bachelor’s degrees, RSU also offers 13 associate’s degrees.
DISTANCE AND ONLINE LEARNING
Rogers State was the first university in Oklahoma and one of the first in the United States to offer degree programs in a completely online format over the internet. Through a program called eCollege, RSU has become a pioneer in online and distance learning. Five bachelor's degrees are offered through the RSU Online program:
- Bachelor of Technology in Applied Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology (with options in Software Development & Multimedia or Computer Network Administration)
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (with an option in Management)
- Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership
- Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts (with options in English or Global Humanities).
The associate’s degrees are:
- Associate of Applied Science in Applied Technology
- Associate of Arts in Business Administration
- Association of Science in Computer Science
- Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts (with options in English and Global Humanities).
COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID
The base tuition rate for an in-state undergraduate student is $177.35 per credit hour, in-state adult degree completion students pay $193 per credit hour, and $254.35 for an in-state online undergraduate student. The estimated cost per year for a traditional undergraduate resident student is around $5,351. Out-of-state undergraduate students pay $399.15 per credit hour; $476.15 per credit hour for out-of-state online students; and $457 per credit for out-of-state adult degree completion students. The estimated costs per year for an out-of-state student is around $12,005. This does not include additional required fees such as room & board. Financial aid is available to those students who qualify. Qualification is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which all aid applicants are required to fill out. Applicants must fill out the FAFSA and apply for scholarships after the application for admissions has been submitted. Aid is received either through loans, scholarships, grants or work-study opportunities.
