Robert Morris University is a private, not-for-profit institution located in Moon Township, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The school was founded in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy. In 1962, the school purchased 230 acres which is at its current location. A short time later, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania granted the school permission to award associates degrees, and the school became Robert Morris Junior College. Around 2002, the university changed to its present day name. RMU continues to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees at their downtown location as well as other select locations like Southpointe and PTI. Today, the school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees up to the doctorate level. The school is proud to be affiliated in NCAA Division I sports with a total of 23 varsity sports offered. There are also around 136 student groups offered at RMU to help make the college experience better for students
The total enrollment is a little over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students; 4,144 undergraduate and 1,037 graduate. Of those students around 85% are full-time. The gender ratio of the student body is 53% male and 47% female. Students represent 42 states and 32 nations as well. The number of students living on campus has risen 98% since 2000; from 900 to 1,781. The university has a 94% placement rate, with 8% of graduating students enrolling full-time in graduate schools. 82% of all students complete at least one internship before they graduate, which give them a more hands-on experience in their field of study. The faculty at RMU are dedicated in providing the highest quality education to all students. There are around 196 full-time faculty and 571 full-time employees. The student to faculty ratio is 14.5:1 and the average class size is 21.6 which provide students with a more personalized learning environment.
RMU offers 60 undergraduate and 20 graduate degree programs. The university consists of the following 5 academic schools: the School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs, which are AACSB accredited, the School of Education and Social Sciences (TEAC accredited) offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs, the School of Communications and Information Systems offers undergraduate (ABET accredited), graduate, and doctoral degree programs, and the School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science offers undergraduate degree programs, including ABET-accredited engineering programs, and one graduate program.
DISTANCE AND ONLINE LEARNING
RMU additionally offers eight undergraduate and graduate degrees in the following fully online programs: B.S. in Applied Psychology, B.S. in Organizational Studies, B.S. in Health Services, B.A. in English Studies, Pre-MBA Program, Master of Business Administration, M.S. in Organizational Studies, M.S. in Instructional Leadership, and M.S. in Business Education.
COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID
Admission to RMU is similar to most colleges. All applicants are required to complete the admissions requirements which include an application form, transcripts and SAT/ACT test scores. 30% of incoming freshman typically graduate in the top quarter of their high school class. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Qualification is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that all applicants are required to fill out. 93% of all students receive some form of financial aid. RMU offers a comprehensive program of financial aid assistance in the form of scholarships, work-study, grants, and loans.
