Founded in 1970, Rappahannock Community College is a public, 2-year community college with campuses in Glenns, Virginia and Warsaw, Virginia.
Rappahannock Community College serves students in thirteen neighboring Virginia counties, the college also maintains satellite sites at the Kilmarnock Center in Lancaster County, in addition to hosting classes at King George High School in King George County. The institution is also a participant of the Virginia Community College System. Stating core values of Access, Excellence, and Effectiveness, Rappahannock Community College focuses on a mission that “provides access to high quality educational experiences for members of its community, preparing them for success as learners, employees, and citizens of the 21st century.”
Rappahannock Community College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate’s degrees and certificates, and the college retains approval by the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Approximately 3,700 students are enrolled in Rappahannock Community College and the student-to-faculty ratio is 26:1. More than 75 percent of students attend part-time and minority students make up about 30 percent of the student body. About 60 percent of students are female.
RCC offers a wide range of associate’s degree programs as well as an online distance learning option. Students can pursue either an Associate of Arts (AA&S) and Sciences degree or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Associate of Arts and Science degrees best suit students that plan to transfer into a 4-year institution in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, and students can choose a concentration in business administration, pre-engineering, psychology, or education. The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares students for direct entry into the workplace, and RCC offers AAS degrees in Business Management, General Engineering Technology, Nursing, Fire Science Technology, Administration of Justice, and Emergency Medical Services. Certificate programs are also offered at RCC.
Rappahannock Community College offers a range of added resources, including library resources, success labs, and tutoring. Students can also participate in extracurricular activities, such as club sports and intramural activities. Prospective applicants must have a high school degree and be over the age of eighteen.
ONLINE AND DISTANCE EDUCATION
The distance education environment features both online courses delivered one hundred percent online, in addition to hybrid courses requiring online and on-campus components. Online courses typically integrate asynchronous lessons, however Rappahannock Community College also offers synchronous interactive video distance education courses. Students can pursue online associate’s degrees and certificate opportunities. Online degrees include the Arts and Sciences Transfer Degree, with specializations in Business Administration, Pre-Engineering, Psychology/Social Work, and Teacher Education, in addition to the Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management and Administration of Justice. Online certificates include studies in Administrative Support Technology, Accounting, General Education, and Law Enforcement, or students can complete online Career Studies Certificates in Computer Applications Specialist, Entrepreneurship, and Web Design.
COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID
Tuition is based on state residency and charge per credit hour. Tuition, not including added fees, is:
- Virginia residents: $122.50 per credit hour
- Military contract rate: $122.50 per credit hour
- Business contract rate: $182.50 per credit hour
- Out-of-state resident: $299.10 per credit hour

The Rappahannock Community College Educational Foundation recognizes achievement and provides financial awards to qualifying students. In addition, a number of programs at Rappahannock Community College qualify for veteran’s educational benefits, and RCC supports the Post 9/11 GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program.
