The history of Prince Institute dates back to the 1970s. The Denver campus began in 1975 by Kenneth Avery, a certified shorthand reporter and registered professional reporter. Also in 1975, the school was incorporated by the State of Colorado and was called The Denver Academy of Court Reporting. At about the same time of the founding of the Denver campus, Sara Prince, a stenographer in the United States Air Force during World War II, founded Prince Institute in Montgomery, Alabama in 1976. Today, Prince Institute is a two-year, private, for profit institution serving students at the Rocky Mountains Campus in Westminster, Colorado, the Great Lakes Campus in Schaumburg, Illinois and the original Southeast Campus in Montgomery, Alabama. Prince Institute operates with the mission to serve students by providing them with high-quality training and the skills necessary to be successful in their chosen professions.
Prince Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools and through its accreditation, approved to award certificates and associate’s degrees.
When applying to Prince Institute, potential students need to submit an application along with secondary school records showing the completion of a High School diploma or GED. For students meeting this requirement, there is an open admission policy and a rolling admissions deadline. After acceptance but prior to enrollment, students are required to have a phone conversation with an admissions representative to discuss professional objectives and the online class structure. Students who attend Prince Institute as on-campus students, return for a following year at a rate of nearly 100 percent and 90 percent of surveyed students assigned Prince Institute an “A” for education quality. Students at Prince Institute typically graduate within the normal time the school expects for students at nearly 70 percent.

While participating in the programs at Prince Institute, students are granted flexibility through part-time and online course offerings, the opportunity to work with modern technology, dedicated teachers and individualized attention due to small class sizes. The annual tuition and fees for beginning full-time undergraduate students at Prince Institute is $9,885 for both in-state students and out-of-state students. Prince Institute offers the assistance and guidance of its financial aid office to help students develop a financial plan. The financial aid office offers tuition payment plans, in addition to supporting grants, scholarships and loans. Students may qualify for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Stafford Loans, the Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students and eligible military personnel and veterans may qualify for added veteran’s benefits.
