Graphic Design – AS Degree
Penn Foster

Program Details

The Graphic Design – AS Degree* offered by Penn Foster College consists of four semesters. Over the course of the program students learn corporate design, color theory, multimedia development, and electronic publishing. Students are taught valuable skills in design, production, formatting, creating illustrations using Adobe Illustrator, and web design.

Penn Foster equips students with standard graphic design software used by design professionals in order for students to complete the assignments. During the program, students study proper layout techniques, transforming techniques, working with layers, and image editing. An important skill to have honed when working as a graphic designer is to be well versed in typography. Graphic designers work with all sorts of typefaces, relying on their visual perception to create balanced and aesthetically pleasing designs. Students may also work with applications such as Dreamweaver, adding animation and graphics to web pages. The final semester includes the students creating a portfolio. In their electronic portfolio, students can store self-made logos, graphic creations and even brochures for later use.

Graphic design is an ever-growing and changing field where students have the opportunity to work for a design company or start their own graphic design business.
