Program Details

Penn Foster provides students with the tools necessary to earn a Gourmet Cooking Certificate. This online program takes students through specialized courses designed to improve gourmet cooking skills to create exceptional dishes. In a series of lessons, students are trained in everything from sauces and soups to pastries and world cuisines.

Students begin by learning the setup of kitchens and buffets. Students are required to experiment with a number of recipes to develop the skill of determining various flavor and texture differences. By completing the course materials, students begin to create stunning dishes, using the skills they have learned. Students incorporate techniques of braising, roasting, and frying to their cooking. Students learn intriguing preparations of poultry and game meat, turning common dishes into impressive ones.

With many individuals becoming more health-conscious, fish has become increasingly popular. Students are taught how to create flavorful, healthful fish dishes. Exploring the art of baking breads and desserts, students learn about the ingredients most often used in these items. In the final course, the students practice creating delightful sandwiches, breakfast items, and hors d’oeuvres using methods from around the world.
