Ocean County College, a public, not for profit, community college, was established in 1969. The main campus for Ocean County College is located in Toms River, New Jersey. In addition to the main campus, there are over 20 Ocean County College off campus sites throughout Ocean County, New Jersey. It is the mission of Ocean County College to foster excellence and a caring environment for all of its students. This mission is reached through actively enforcing its values of civility and courtesy, high standards of professional commitment, a family spirit in an intellectual community and an open-door environment with accessible faculty and staff. Ocean County College is accredited by the New Jersey Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools to award Associate degree and select one or two year certificates. Its nursing program is also accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Ocean County College holds an open admission policy for all students interested in applying. Students who ultimately end up attending Ocean County College, decide to return for a subsequent year at a rate of 67% for students who were enrolled full time and a rate of 46% for students who were enrolled only part time. Students who do not comeback to Ocean County College after taking classes there, transfer out to another higher learning institution at a rate of 17%. Of those students who stay at Ocean County College, about 16% complete their degrees and graduate within the two years it is expected to take to earn an Associate’s degree and 32% graduate within three years of first starting classes.
There are 10,048 students enrolled in classes at Ocean Community College and a student to faculty ratio of 30 to 1. The student body is comprised of 43% male and 57% female students. About 72% of students taking classes at Ocean County College are under the age of 25. The average age of the student body is just under 24 years old. There is no strong sense of diversity with White students making up 79% of the student body and only 9%, 5% and 3% representing Hispanic students, African American students and Asian students respectively. With a rate of 99%, students come to Ocean County College primarily from within the state of New Jersey. Enrolled students attend classes full time at a rate of 55%.

When not in class, students have to option to stay involved at Ocean County College through various clubs and organizations and even a special Student Leadership/Development Program. Ocean County College highly values its clubs and organizations and believes student involvement in extracurricular activities allows students to develop effective human relations skills, assume responsibility and to discover their strengths and weaknesses. In addition to clubs and organizations, students can involve themselves in athletic activities. Ocean County College is a member of the Garden State Athletic Conference. Sports available to students include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and tennis for both men and women and a men’s baseball team.
Tuition is charged per credit hour, the rate charged differs depending on students’ resident status. For County residents, in state residents and out of state or foreign residents credit hours are $98, $130 and $215 respectively. There is a financial aid office at Ocean County College that can help students find and apply for financial aid and scholarships. About 31% of students currently receive financial grants or scholarships with the average award amount reaching $4,326. Students also have the option of applying for student loans to help curb the cost of tuition. About 27% of students receive student loans and the average loan amount is $3,432.
