Nova Southeastern University may have started as a small independent not-for-profit university when it first educated its first students in 1964, however this Ft. Lauderdale campus followed the lead of many growing movements from the sixties and quickly expanded into a modern global facility promoting distance learning by 1972. Today, NSU hosts field-based programs in more than twenty states, as well as internationally. In addition, this University educates over 28,000 students each year and is committed to an online educational program. Nova Southeastern University offers a large number of online degree programs to accommodate a wide range of students. Students can choose from twenty-plus online undergraduate degrees, many of which focus in the fields of business, education, computer and health sciences, like Nursing. Student’s seeking a graduate degree have more than fifty different online options. Programs range from health sciences programs, like a Master’s of Occupational Therapy to more business oriented degrees like a Master’s of Accounting degree. Online doctoral programs include Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Criminal Justice, and Health Sciences.
Nova Southeastern University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, approved to award Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Specialist and Doctorate degrees. NSU also holds numerous professional accreditations, like the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education’s accreditation of a variety of degrees, at all levels, in the fields of business and administration by the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. Seventy-six of Nova Southeastern’s online graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs are certified by the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus (SREB). The SREB’s certification determines that online degrees and certificates meet full compliance according to a comprehensive set of Principles of Good Practice.
Online classes at Nova Southeastern University occur in both synchronous and asynchronous formats to best facilitate an interactive environment between students and faculty. A typical course incorporates threaded bulletin boards, real-time electronic classrooms using video and audio, and multimedia-based assignments. Online resources are available to students, including the University’s Electronic Library which houses many full-text documents and access to databases. Admission requirements vary from first time students just graduating high school to adult students returning to school to international students seeking a degree, but include the application and submission of transcripts, from either high school or prior college experience.
Tuition costs are degree specific and also vary between programs. An undergraduate student seeking an online Business Administration degree would pay $645 per credit hour, not including fees while the tuition for the Bachelor’s of Health Sciences degree ranges from $250 to $300 per credit hour, not including fees. The Master’s of Science in Criminal Justice program costs $605 per credit hour, not including fees.

Most of the University’s own scholarships are degree-specific, like the National Board Certificate Scholarship awarded by the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education, so students should check with their desired program for a complete list of scholarships.
NSU also works with veterans to support their furthering education through a partnership with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible aid ranges from $2,000 to $8,500 per year, with qualifying undergraduate veterans receiving $8,500 per year in aid.
