Nash Community College, a public comprehensive educational institution, was founded in 1967. Nash is a 2 year public institution. The mission to provide an affordable educational environment to prepare students for college transfer and rewarding careers is achieved through teaching excellence, high quality instruction, technology, and work force development. Nash is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges to award Associates degrees and is also accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association, Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education for its physical therapist assistant program.
The Nash Community College campus is encompasses 86 acres and is conveniently located between Nashville and Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The campus is easily accessible to many surrounding counties due to its location less than a mile off U.S. Highway 64 Bypass and US Interstate 95. The campus is composed of modern looking buildings including the Science and Technology Center, the Business and Industry Center and a five-star rated Child Development Center.
Learners of all kinds are welcome at Nash Community College due to their open-door admissions policy. After finishing their first year at Nash, 57% of full time students come back the following academic year and 44% of part time students return. However, only 8% of students at Nash graduate within the two years it is expected to take to earn an Associates Degree.
There are 3,435 students currently enrolled at Nash, 22% of which are part of the College Transfer programs for an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or the Associate in General Education degree. Nash is comprised of 62% female students and 38% male students, 48% of the students are enrolled full time. About 64% of Nash Community College students Reside in Nash County and only 1% come in from out of state. Nash Community College is quite diverse with 47% of the student body associating themselves with a minority ethnicity. Students of all ages attend Nash and 42% of them are 25 years old or older.
Students at Nash can choose from 38 certificates and Associate degrees to work towards when furthering their education. Some of the more unique program options include the necessary training for careers in Culinary, Biotechnology, Law Enforcement, Truck Driving, Electric Lineman, Machining, Advertising and Graphic Design and Medical Assisting. While enrolled in classes at Nash, students will be taught by and interact with the 290 members of the competent and encouraging faculty. Students have the ability to receive specialized attention in class due to a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.
To help accommodate the different schedules of its students, Nash offers a distance education program with online classes. Many of the general and continuing education courses can be taken online and there is a brand new program that offers students the option to receive their A.A. degree entirely online.
There are many services on campus available to students including; remedial services, academic and career counseling, employment services, job placement services and on-campus day care. In addition to the campus services, students can also find a number of clubs and organizations around campus to become a part of.
Tuition for in state students comes to 3,435 per year and $8,388 per year for out of state students. Nash Community College allows and encourages students to apply for financial aid to help offset the costs of furthering their education. About 62% of students receive financial aid and 16% of those receiving aid were granted Institutional grants or scholarships. For the 62% of students receiving aid, the average awarded amount is $4,718.
