Massachusetts Bay Community College is a two-year public school located in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. The school was chartered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1961.

Massachusetts Bay Community College has 3 campuses: Wellesley (main campus), Ashland, and Framingham. MBCC is home to the Felix Juliani Art Gallery, the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, the MetroWest Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the All About Us Children’s Theater. All performances are open to the public.

Massachusetts Bay Community College offers certificates of completion and associate’s degrees. Classes are offered during the daytime, evening, and weekend. Academic divisions include: Health Sciences; Humanities; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Social Sciences and Professional Studies; and Transportation and Energy. Online courses are also available at MBCC to provide convenience for students. Some courses are offered completely online, including: associate’s degrees in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, and General Business, and a certificate in Management.

Massachusetts Bay Community College has 5,276 students and 382 faculty members, giving the university a 17:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Of all faculty members, 87 teach full-time and 295 teach part-time. About 60% of undergraduate students study full-time and 40% study part-time. 

The student body contains 57% female students and 43% male students. About 56% of all students are white with the remaining students being black (17%), Hispanic (13%), Asian (4%), and American Indian (1%) with the remaining 10% of students have not categorized their ethnicity. About 59% of students are ages 24 and under with 41% of students being ages 25 and above. About 99% of students are from Massachusetts and 1% are from out-of-state. The majority of students attend MassBay from the MetroWest and Boston areas. 

The retention rate for first-time, full-time students is 55% and the retention rate for first-time, part-time students is 39%. The overall graduation rate is 13% and the overall transfer-out rate is 33%. The overall graduation rate by gender is 14% for males and 12% for females.

Student life includes athletics, over 30 clubs and organizations, club sports, and student government. Sports offered at MBCC include men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, and track and field. A recreational and wellness center is located on campus where students can work out.

Students have access to services such as remedial tutoring, academic counseling, career counseling, employment services for students, and placement services for completers.  

Tuition costs $4,176 per year for in-state students and $9,120 per year for out-of-state students. Books and other supplies are estimated to cost  $1,200 per year. Off-campus living is estimated to cost $8,478 per year with $5,626 in additional living expenses. Tuition payment plans are offered. Financial aid is offered in the form of state grants, federal grants, scholarships, and loans. To qualify to receive financial aid, you must complete a FAFSA form and be evaluated to be in financial need. Approximately 62% of those attending Massachusetts Bay Community College receive financial aid. The average amount of federal, state, or local aid is $3,412 and the average amount of student loans is $3,921.

Massachusetts Bay Community College has an open admissions policy. The undergraduate application fee costs $20.  To enroll for admission, students need to complete an online application, self-certify whether you have either a high school diploma or GED certificate, and if applicable, provide official transcripts from all prior colleges attended. International students may have additional requirements.
