Maranatha Baptist Bible College is a four-year private Baptist school located in Watertown, Wisconsin. The school was founded in 1968 by Dr. Cedarholm, who named the school after the Aramaic phrase Maranatha, which means "Lo He cometh," and appears in I Corinthians 16:22.
Maranatha Baptist Bible College offers certificates of completion, associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees. Students are able to choose from 30 majors, 40 minors, and six graduate programs. Online college and seminary courses are offered. All courses, online or in a classroom, are taught from a biblical worldview
The campus of 79 acres includes: Old Main, which has three floors of classes, administrative office, two fine arts performance halls, and Maranatha Baptist Academy; Dining Complex; Cedarholm Library; Gymnasium with locker rooms, faculty offices, two gyms, a weight room, and a fitness area; Hanneman Hall which houses the nursing program and science department; and five men’s and five women’s dormitories.
Students can participate in many activities on campus, including: intramural sports, daily chapel services (9:20 am-10:00 am), and college-sponsored games. The Maranatha “Crusaders” sports teams compete in NCCAA Division II and NCAA Division III. Volunteering at homeless shelters, tutoring disadvantaged youth, mentoring at juvenile detention facilities, and leading worship service at nursing homes are some of the community service activities that many students participate in.
Maranatha Baptist Bible College has 1,019 students (927 undergraduates) and 65 faculty members, giving the university a 16:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Of all faculty members, 46 teach full-time and 19 teach part-time. Of all students, about 83% study full-time and about 17% study part-time. The student body contains 54% female students and 46% male students. About 71% of all students are White with the remaining students being Asian and Hispanic. About 91% of students are ages 24 and under with 9% of students being ages 25 and above. About 26% of students are from Wisconsin, 72% of students are from out-of-state, and 1% of students are from a foreign country. The retention rate for first-time, full-time students is 76% and the retention rate for first-time, part-time students is 100%. The overall graduation rate is 53%.
Special learning opportunities available to students include: ROTC (Army and Air Force), study abroad, and teacher certification. Students have access to services such as remedial tutoring, academic counseling, and career counseling.
Tuition costs $12,260 per year and books and other supplies are estimated to cost $1,010 per year. On-campus living costs $6,290 per year with an estimated $3,810 in additional living expenses. Off-campus living is estimated to cost $9,196 per year with $1,010 in additional living expenses. No alternative payment plans are offered. Financial aid is offered in the form of state grants, federal grants, scholarships, and loans. To qualify to receive financial aid, you must complete a FAFSA form and be evaluated to be in financial need. About 88% of all MBBC students receive financial aid.
Every year, around 430 students apply to Marantha Baptist Bible College and 75% of those applicants will be admitted into the school. Statistically, 72% of men and 78% of women who apply will be accepted. The admissions committee evaluates the following factors in applicants: Clear salvation testimony, good Christian character as identified in personal essay and character references, faithful attendance at a Bible preaching church, have a desire to learn in a conservative, God honoring environment, have a high school diploma or GED, and have evidence of an academic foundation necessary to succeed at an academically rigorous college (GPA 2.0 or better, ACT composite 16 or better). The application fee costs $50 and is non-refundable. Students who are accepted will be contacted by mail and e-mail.
