Luther Rice University is a private, four-year Baptist institution located in Lithonia, Georgia. The school’s mission statement is “to provide theological education for Christian ministers and leaders around the world with an end to granting undergraduate and graduate degrees.” The educational experience offered at LRU is designed to “instill biblical core values essential to excellence in Christian ministry and leadership.”
In mid-1962, the State of Florida granted a charter for a seminary to be placed in Jacksonville, Florida, and Luther Rice University was created. In 1991, the Seminary moved from Jacksonville to Lithonia, Georgia. The name of Luther Rice Seminary was changed in 2004 by the action of the Trustees to Luther Rice University.
Luther Rice University awards bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees. The school offers the following programs:

Students can earn a degree exclusively through online studies, through traditional classroom format, or in a hybrid format. Almost 300 online courses are offered per year, which are delivered through secure servers using Blackboard and standard Internet connections. Online courses require about 5-6 hours of work per week, equal to that of on-campus counterparts.

Luther Rice is a commuter campus and does not offer housing at this time. Off-campus housing is estimated to cost about $9,500 per year. There are a variety of dining options available located within 2 miles of campus or in the Student Center.
Additionally, LRU supports a number of extracurricular organizations and activities. Chapel is held each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the fall and spring semesters from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in order to facilitate spiritual development. Other opportunities for spiritual development include the Prayer Encounter and Student Theological Fellowship. Student services include remedial tutoring, academic and career counseling, and placement services for completers.
Tuition fees are based on the class format. Campus-based classes cost $714 per course, totaling $3,570 for a 15-credit hour student. Online tuition costs $729 per course, totaling $3,645 for 15-credit hours. Master’s programs cost $720 per course for campus-based programs and $735 per course for online degrees. The doctoral program costs $870 per course.
Luther Rice University maintains an open admission policy. To apply, students need to submit an application with the $50 non-refundable application fee. Official transcripts must be sent directly to LRU and applicants will need to submit a Christian Character Reference from someone in a leadership position in their respective church. Upon fulfillment of application criteria, applicants must also complete a Bible Knowledge test.
More than seventy percent of students take advantage of financial aid available at LRU. Sources of aid include federal grants and loans, Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Sponsorship, James Flanagan Scholars Award, in addition to other scholarship resources. To determine eligibility, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Luther Rice's federal school code is 031009.
