Lake Region State College is a two-year public school located in Devils Lake, North Dakota in an area three miles from Devils Lake, Michigan’s largest natural body of water. LRSC was established in 1941 as an extension of the public school system. The school’s name has changed several times, but Lake Region State College has remained the name since its adoption in 1999. LRSC is a part of the North Dakota University System and has four campuses: Devils Lake Campus, Grand Forks Airforce Base Campus, the Online Campus, and Outreach Campuses. The College became affiliated with the University of North Dakota in 1987, operating as a branch campus under the name of UND-Lake Region.
Lake Region State College offers certificates of completion and associate’s degrees in over 40 areas of study. Classes are available in a traditional format and in online format (distance learning), where courses can be taken directly from home. Online courses and degrees are available to out-of-state students based on state authorization.
Lake Region State College has 2,056 undergraduate students and 41 faculty members, giving the university a 12 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio. Of all faculty members, 31 each full-time and 10 teach part-time. Of all students, about 25% study full-time and about 75% study part-time. The student body contains 56% female students and 44% male students. About 85% of all students are White with the remaining students being Black and Hispanic. About 77% of students are ages 24 and under with 23% of students being ages 25 and above. About 85% of students are from North Dakota, 9% of students are out-of-state students, and 6% of students are from a foreign country. About 20% of all student live on-campus. The retention rate for first-time, full-time students is 54% and the retention rate for first-time, part-time students is 33%. The overall graduation rate is 52% and the overall transfer-out rate is 15%. The overall graduation rate by gender is 52% for males and 53% for females.
Students have access to services such as remedial tutoring, academic and career counseling, employment services, on-campus day care for students’ children, and placement services for completers. Intramural sports that are available to students include: basketball, football, golf, ice hockey, softball, tennis, and volleyball. Lake Region State College is a member of National Junior College Athletic Association and plays in Division X in Intercollegiate basketball.
Tuition costs $3,908 per year and books and other supplies are estimated to cost $1,000 per year. Both on and off-campus living is estimated to cost $4,900 per year with $3,342 in additional living expenses. Meal plans are offered with a maximum of 17 meals per week. Tuition payment plans are offered. Financial aid is offered in the form of state grants, federal grants, scholarships, and loans. To qualify to receive financial aid, you must complete a FAFSA form and be evaluated to be in financial need. About 87% of all LLC students receive financial aid.
To apply, students must submit the enrollment application, a non-refundable $35 application fee, high school transcript/GED test scores, immunity records, ACT/SAT results, and any college transcripts. Lake Region State College has an open admissions policy, accepting 90% of students, and a rolling application deadline. After processing of the application, students will be mailed a letter of acceptance and information about class registration. Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nurse Programs, American Sign Language and Interpreting Studies, Peace Officer Training, Speech Language Pathology, Wind Energy Technician, and Launch programs have special entry requirements beyond the basic application requirements.
Lake Region State College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and approved by the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education.
