Herzing University is a private, for-profit institution that has focused on career education since its founding in 1965. It began as a computer training school by Henry and Suzanne Herzing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Throughout the years, it has expanded to multiple campus locations and diversified its educational programs. Campus locations include:

In 2003, Herzing University set in motion the Online Campus, which has quickly grown to incorporate the largest number of students at the Herzing campuses. In 2009, the university added graduate programs. Furthermore, Herzing is WBE certified by the National Woman Business Owners Corporation in recognition of the only woman-owned accredited university in the United States. Today, Herzing offers online Master’s, Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees, as well as a diploma program.
Herzing University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association. Additionally, Herzing retains programmatic accreditation for individual programs.
- The Commission on Health Informatics and Information Management Education has accredited the Associate of Science and the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management online program.
- The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools has accredited Herzing’s Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services at the Online Campus.
- The Bachelor of Science in Nursing-Bridge program at the Online Campus is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
- The Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner, Master of Science in Nursing-Nursing Education, and Master of Science of Nursing-Nursing Management Online are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Herzing University Online offers 21 specific undergraduate degree programs in the fields of Healthcare, Business, Technology, Public Safety and Design. Students may choose topics like Health Information Management or opt to enroll in the Nursing program. Business programs range from Accounting to International Business and Marketing. Technology includes Software and Mobile App Development while Design focuses on Graphic Design. And Public Safety consists of majors in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security and Public Safety.
Likewise, programs may vary according to campus locations. For example, formerly known as the Akron Institute, Herzing Akron offers more than 15 programs in fields of healthcare, business, technology, design, and public safety. Studies range from Nursing and Business Management to programs in Graphic Design and Professional Aeronautics. At Akron, students also have multiple options within each field of study. For instance, students can complete either an Associate’s degree or diploma in Insurance Billing and Coding Specialist, or enroll in the Criminal Justice program, offering Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and diploma programs.
Herzing places a focus on two graduate programs: Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree (MSN). MBA programs include a Master’s of Business Administration that can be earned with 33 credit hours in one year, or students can also enroll in an added 12 credit hours of specializations in Accounting, Business Management, Healthcare Management, Human Resources, Marketing, Project Management and Technology Management. MSN degrees allow students to choose a concentrations in Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education, and a Nursing Management degree.
The university automatically schedules future classes to keep students on track, and they back their courses with a Quality Assurance guarantee. Should a student opt to repeat a course, if he/she completed it with a passing grade then the student may repeat the class at no tuition charge.
Typical class sizes average 18 students, although they are capped at 25. They include individual and group assignments, incorporate discussion boards and include open book exams based on applied knowledge. Instructors can be reached via email, phone, or by appointment.
Applications for the undergraduate degree require a high school diploma, GED or HSED, an entrance assessment, recommendation by the Admissions Advisor, and a motivation to learn. Graduate applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a school that has been accredited by an approved U.S. Department of Education agency, a 2.7 GPA minimum, or GMAT score of 500+, or GRE scores of 450+ on Verbal and 450+ on Quantitative Reasoning, and a fluency of the English language. Conditional admissions may be considered. In addition, Herzing may accept the transfer of courses from other approved institutions at their discretion and they also offer Credit for Life Experience options.
Herzing provides personalized assistance with career development as well as the financial processes. Herzing’s tuition is program-specific, and estimated costs range from $10,920 to $86,940. For eligible students, Herzing University utilizes federal aid, grants, scholarships, tuition assistance programs, and alternative lending in the forms of the Direct Loan Program and Pell Grant Program, Parent PLUS Loan Program, and more.
Herzing University Online also takes added steps to work with qualifying military students. The university offers Military Appreciation Grants that covers up to 20% of tuition for Active Military, National Guard and Reserves, Veterans, and spouses and dependents of the military family. In addition Herzing supports the Henry G. Herzing Scholarship for Severely Injured Servicemembers named after the founder of Herzing, Henry Herzing who served in the U.S. Navy. Additional Military Appreciation Scholarships are available for servicemembers, veterans, and families.
