FORTIS has recently emerged as a post-secondary network of colleges and institutes offering degrees through 40 schools in 15 different states, in addition to the online program. Students enrolled at the two-year, for-profit FORTIS channel their studies in career driven programs, like nursing, business, information technology, cosmetology and skilled trades.
FORTIS Online currently provides online Diploma and Associate’s degree programs. Fields of study include computer sciences, management, business, hospitality, marketing, healthcare, graphic design, criminal justice, and others. Students can pursue an Associate’s degree in Medical Billing and Coding where they learn the best practices for processing insurance claims or opt to enroll in Criminal Justice and focus on the best investigation methods with concentrations in homeland security. There are more than ten online Associate’s degrees to choose from. Classes typically incorporate group forums, live chats, instantly graded exams, professor feedback, case studies, access to flashcards and 24/7 flexibility.
FORTIS College is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and is registered with the Ohio State board of Career Colleges and Schools. The Ohio Board of Regents also authorizes individual programs including the Medical Assisting, Nursing, Paralegal, and Criminal Justice Associate degrees and the Associate Degree in Nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.
At FORTIS, students benefit from various aid programs including federal and state aid, along with private loan programs. Students are “encouraged to explore all options available.” Likewise, tuition rates are variable and state specific at FORTIS.
FORTIS Online works to provide a “military-friendly” environment for members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. FORTIS Online retains membership with the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium that facilitates learning by minimizing loss of transfer credits, granting earned-credits for military training and understanding the demands of active duty. For example, FORTIS recognizes AP, CLEP and DSST (DANTES) examinations for earned college credit. FORTIS works with military personnel to obtain benefits from GI Bills and federal aid programs, in addition to offering military-friendly tuition. After calculating aid and benefits, FORTIS ensures active duty military that they will pay no more than $165 per credit hour. Furthermore, FORTIS extends many of their military benefits to eligible active duty, veterans, and military spouses.
