Emmanuel Christian Seminary is a private not-for-profit graduate seminary founded in 1965. It is religiously affiliated with the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. This seminary is located in Johnson City, Tennessee however it does offer the Master of Christian Ministries as an online distance learning program. The mission of this graduate institution is to “fulfill the missions of the church by preparing men and women for effective ministry”. Students entering this seminary have completed their undergraduate degrees from various universities and bible colleges. Emmanuel Christian Seminary is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.

Johnson City is located in the Appalachian Mountains in Northeast Tennessee. It has a population of approximately 500,000. This location offers students the opportunity to visit many natural attractions and take part in various outdoor activities. Milligan College is in close proximity allowing students to attend cultural events at Milligan College as part of a student activity fee. Examples of additional activities that are covered by the student activity fee include the mandatory fall retreat and the usage of the Milligan College recreational facilities.

In addition, students have access to a number of resources and extracurricular activities at Emmanuel Christian Seminary. Students can participate in Fellowship chapels and the Emmanuel Retreat. Students can attend lectures, including the Westwood Lectureships and Kershner Memorial Lectures featuring noted guest speakers. The Emmanuel Christian Seminary Library houses over 171,000 resources and students can access materials online.

Emmanuel Christian Seminary offers four graduate programs and enrolls over one hundred students. These include the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts and Religion, Master of Christian Ministries, and Doctor of Ministry. These programs aim to prepare students for ministry work in various areas including worship, Christian education, evangelism and church growth, cross-cultural missions, and more. Each student will create an online portfolio of their work as they progress through their courses. These portfolios are a graduation requirement. The Master of Christian Ministries is an online program offered to students who are unable to complete a residential program. It requires 48 credit hours including courses on biblical studies, church history and Christian theology, Christian ministries, and spiritual formation and mentored ministry experience. Coursework features hybrid online assignments blended with intensive on-campus sessions, in addition to fully online classes.

International students need to submit added documentation, including proof of English language proficiency and financial support.

On-campus housing is offered for both families and single students. Two or three bedroom cottages are available for rent at $500 a month for families and $250 a month for single renters looking to share a cottage. Rent includes central heat and air, washer and dryer hookups, internet, trash, and cable. Emmanuel prides itself on the strong sense of community that exists within the Emmanuel Village. Emmanuel is willing to assist its students in finding affordable off-campus housing including several apartments, duplexes, and houses for rent within a mile of campus.

Tuition is approximately $452 per credit hour and there is an option to audit a course for $100 per audit hour. Additional costs include student fees and book and supplies. The school works with its students to make its education affordable. Various partial scholarships are offered to eligible students including two International Student Scholarships awarded each year. Scholarships may have different academic requirements. Students also have the option of applying for Federal Direct Stafford Loans. Students interested in this option must complete both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Emmanuel’s Application for Student Financial Aid. These loans are disdiversed in either two or four disbursements depending on the student’s course of study and are received by the school via electronic funds transfer. There is an interest rate of 6.8 percent which accumulates while the student is in school.
