Dakota College at Bottineau

105 Simrall Blvd, Bottineau, ND 58318-1198

School Details

When the state constitution of North Dakota was ratified in 1889 it included a provision for a forestry school to help promote the growth of trees on the prairies. Seven years later the Dakota College at Bottineau opened up as a School of Forestry, using the land around it as a foundation for study in forestry, horticulture, sustainable vegetable production and wildlife. Areas such as the Turtle Mountain Forest, the prairie pothole region and Lake Metigoshe served—and to this day, still serve—as natural laboratories to strengthen the educational experience for students.

Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, DCB averages about 650 students per semester. With 35 acres of campus and a 14:1 student-teacher ratio, those 650 students receive an impeccably well-rounded and focused education, in a cozy environment. Tuition for in-state students is $1,943.50 per semester, and most out-of-state costs fall in at around $2,700.

While the school is best known for its environmental studies, the two-year public college offers a wide variety of courses outside of forestry. There are 33 Associate of Applied Science programs that provide two-year career and technical degrees in other subjects such as information technology and advertising and marketing, as well Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) transfer programs that lay out the base coursework for a Bachelor degree. Students can begin studies in accounting, economics, education, psychology, veterinary science and many more.

Even though DCB is a two-year school, students receive the full college experience in their time there—with access to residence hall living, clubs and extracurricular activities, and a robust athletic department. In addition, the college has a wonderful working relationship with countless four-year institutions for seamless transition, with Minot State University topping the list. As the parent institution to DCB, MSU shares facilities, technology and faculty with the school and has an ongoing agreement for simple transfer.
