Concordia University Irvine is a private, Christian institution affiliated with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod that is located in the city of Irvine, California.
The university’s liberal arts curriculum aims to provide a framework for students to explore the opportunities, which lie ahead. At Concordia, students don’t learn just the facts and figures, they learn how to think and commit themselves in their area of study. CUI was founded in 1976 as Christ College - Irvine in response to the growing desire to establish a Lutheran preparatory college in Southern California. In 1981, Christ College earns a full academic accreditation by the Western Alliance of Schools and Colleges. Since then, the university has built residence halls, athletic facilities and a beautiful library. In 1993, Christ College became Concordia University - Irvine, the tenth campus in the Concordia University System. In 1997, CUI launched its first online distance learning through CUENet (Concordia University Education Network). Since its establishment, CUI continues to grow. Today, Concordia is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
CUI currently has approximately 3,519 graduate and undergraduate students with an enrollment ratio of around 60% female and 40% male. The smaller class sizes of around 20 students on average allows students to learn on a more personal basis and become more connected with their professor and their studies. Nicknamed The Eagles, the students of CUI enjoy an array of athletics for both males and females ranging from basketball and baseball to water polo and cross country. Concordia also offers around 20 clubs and organizations for students to get involved with the option of starting their own. Concordia is rapidly growing and offers students many opportunities for a gaining a degree in their interested field and participate in many extracurricular opportunities.
The Concordia campus encourages student participation both academically and socially. Students listen to live music, play pool or ping pong, and getting involved with weekend programming. The Irvine campus aims to offer many opportunities to meet new people. Weekend programming allows students who are unable to go off campus to keep busy. However, the city of Irvine has many cultural and social activities and events to choose from, if a student is inclined.
CUI offers a wide range of bachelor and master’s degrees with online and regional cohort options available. CUI is aims to distinguish itself from other Christian universities due to its innovative and engaging Core Curriculum to provide excellent higher education, and its Lutheran heritage to provide a thoughtful and caring Christian community under the motto “Grace Alone. Faith Alone.” Under 6 colleges, there are a total of 20 undergraduate majors and 50 specializations available to students. There are also 9 graduate programs offered, 4 adult bachelor degree completion programs, and 3 nursing programs. CUI offers a wide degree of opportunities to explore different subjects.
Concordia University - Irvine aims to make their admissions process as streamlined as possible. Once the student has decided to apply, the university connects them with an admission counselor. To identify their admission counselor, the student simply has to contact the program they are applying for (undergraduate, graduate, adult education or nursing) and someone will be happy to assist. Students are able to call, tweet, email or facebook their admission counselor for help. The admission counselor can be a great tool that any potential student can utilize to answer any questions they have about the admission process or the university itself. The application process is made easier through the online application on the university’s website. The additional documentation required for submission includes transcripts, SAT scores, letters of recommendation and an essay. The application fee is $50 and the tuition deposit is $500 if the student chooses to attend Concordia University - Irvine. The acceptance rate for CUI is 69%.

Tuition for undergraduate students is around $28,500 per academic year. Concordia offers financial assistance to more than 90% of students. There are a number of scholarships, grants and loans available to students who desire financial aid.
