Central Washington University cannot accept online students in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, and New Mexico. Moreover, prior to commitment to an online degree program, students in select states need to verify that Central Washington internship requirements are not restricted in their state of residency. Possible states in question include: Oregon, Montana, North Dakota, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Central Washington University advises that prospective distance education students should consider online readiness and have skills in computer literacy, reading and writing, self-motivation, time commitment, time management, and a desire to learn. Just like on-campus coursework, students complete scheduled assignments and must meet set deadlines. Coursework includes readings and assignments, quizzes, exams, and class discussion forums. Students do have access to student services, some of which includes advising and technical support.
