Neighboring the Pacific Ocean in Long Beach, California, the 322-acre California State University Long Beach campus features updated academic facilities adorned with campus sculptures that were contributed by the International Sculpture Symposium. Along with the sculptures, 3,200 flowering peach trees, donated by local community members, shade the campus. This is a far cry from the original “converted apartment building” that educated the very first students in 1949.
In 1960, the Donahoe Higher Education Act organized all of the California State Colleges into a single system, known as California State University. This re-organization of institutions include the Long Beach campus. Cal State University Long Beach is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the California State Board of Education. The University also maintains a large number of programmatic accreditations and affiliations. In addition, Cal State Long Beach has received a variety of recognitions, including the 2011 listing as a top 100 Best Values in Public Colleges in 2011 by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.
California State University, Long Beach hosts a wide array of campus activities for its approximately 35,000 enrolled students.The University competes in NCAA division I athletics, and supports thirty different intramural and club sports programs. Additionally, students will discover almost 200 on-campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, religious and cultural clubs, honor societies, special interest groups, and organizations motivated by social and political causes. Furthermore, students interested in the arts can attend concerts and plays at one of the university’s seven theaters or visit exhibitions at the University Art Museum.

Organized through the College of Continuing and Professional Education, students can pursue a Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration degree or complete certificates in Ghostwriting and Health Coach Training. The University also offers an online Global Logistics Specialist Professional Designation Program. Likewise, students can pursue multiple online classes, both for credit and personal enrichment purposes. individual online coursework ranges from topics, like HazMat Training and Administrative Assistant Fundamentals, to Introduction to Photoshop CS4 and a Learn How to Buy and Sell on Ebay course.
Tuition for California full-time undergraduate residents is $6,240 per semester, with an added $372 per unit for out-of-state full-time undergraduate students. California full-time graduate residents pay tuition of $3,753 per semester, and out-of-state full-time graduate students also pay an additional $372 per unit. Tuition for Doctorate degrees is degree-specific and begins at $5,943 per semester.
