Through Auburn Online, students at Auburn University can enroll in distance education undergraduate and graduate degrees, professional credit, and personal enrichment programs.

ONLINE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Many distance education programs at Auburn are housed within the College of Education and the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business. The College of Business supports master’s programs in business administration, accounting, finance, and information systems, along with certificate options. For second degree students who want to change careers, the online Bachelor of Science in Accounting offers a viable option. Education studies focus on programs and virtual courses including, but not limited to: business education, special education, agriscience, foreign language, library media, elementary education, music, counseling, and adult education. Added online graduate programs, include degrees within the College of Agriculture; College of Architecture, Design, and Construction; and the College of Human Sciences. Students also have the opportunity to pursue professional certificate courses and trainings, continuing education enrichment courses, and a wide range of undergraduate online courses.

Within its mission, the Distance Learning at Auburn states an intended purpose of “the creation and implementation of high-quality, interactive, credit and continuing education distance education courses and programs.” Virtual environments typically follow the same structure as that of traditional on-campus counterparts. It should be noted that some degree programs may require an on-campus cohort component, such as the Executive MBA degree. In addition, programs like the Online MBA are only available to United States residents, with the exception of U.S. military personnel serving overseas. Distance education students have access to technical support, learning resources, and the Auburn University Library. Academic application criteria are program-specific. 

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Auburn University is a public, four-year institution of higher education, located in the city of Auburn, Alabama. Originating in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, Auburn University became the first southern land-grant institution. Today, Auburn University is recognized as a “land, sea, and space” grant university. Auburn awards undergraduate and graduate degrees, including doctoral programs. As part of its mission statement, the “Auburn Spirit” commits to “high-quality” programs of study with continued “development of its research programs.”

Fields of study are housed within the following thirteen colleges and schools: College of Agriculture; College of Architecture, Design, and Construction; College of Business; College of Education; College of Engineering; School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; Graduate School; Honors College; College of Human Sciences; College of Liberal Arts; School of Nursing; School of Pharmacy; College of Sciences and Mathematics; and College of Veterinary Medicine. 

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID

The FAFSA filing deadline for need-based scholarship opportunities is March 1, and April 1 for federal aid eligibility. Types of student aid includes loans, grants, Work-Study, and scholarships. Specific grants offered include the:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
  • Alabama Student Assistance Program
  • Federal Teach Grant

Loans include: Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans, Federal Parent Plus Loan, Federal Graduate Plus Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, Health Professions Student Loan, and private student loans from external institutions. Students may also qualify for freshman scholarships, one-year general scholarships, and departmental awards at Auburn. The AU Veterans Resource Center assists veterans and military personnel with added benefits, including the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
