The American College of Education (ACE) is a private online graduate school that is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and offers online programs for students wishing to obtain Master and Doctor of Education degrees. Graduate certificates and transitional programs for teaching certification are also offered. The American College of Education is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
The American College of Education has roots that over 150 years old. The ACE acquired Barat College in 2005, which began as an academy for young women in Chicago in 1958. In 1918, Barat became a four year college and became a co-educational institution in 1982. In 2001, DePaul University formed an alliance with Barat College. Barat remained separate from DePaul, but existed as a campus within the DePaul University system.
The ACE strives to provide affordable, quality educational programs for academic professionals including administrators, teachers and researchers to prepare them for being successful classroom and administrative leaders. In addition to receiving a degree, ACE students also learn instruction on how to make improvements to their classrooms and to their schools. ACE offers online Master of Education degrees in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, educational leadership and educational technology, and Ed.D and Ed.S degrees in leadership. ACE’s subject area certificates include teaching science, bilingual education, English as a second language, digital learning and teaching, effective classroom management, Louisa Moats literacy instruction and implementing K-6 common core mathematics standard. ACE also offers paths to new teacher licensure which include transition to teaching certificate and Master of Arts in teaching at the elementary and secondary levels.
ACE’s online approach to education allows busy professional students the chance to receive an ACE degree. ACE’s tuition fees are low, which makes it affordable for more students to attend. Students benefit from being able to take classes at any time of the day that they desire, which is beneficial to typical working professionals with busy lifestyles. Students can access ACE’s programs from any location that has internet access. Students are able to watch weekly video lectures and access slides that summarize the lectures main points, participate in online discussion groups with professors and students and receive feedback from professors on submitted written assignments. Most of ACE’s courses follow a five week schedule, and it is possible for students to earn a master’s degree in eighteen months. The majority of ACE’s programs require a 2.75 GPA from a regionally accredited institution for entry, while some programs allow a lower GPA, and some programs require the student to have a teaching degree. ACE’s student affairs department has a student services team available to assist students throughout their entire educational career at ACE and helps students with technical support, account management, providing program orientation, making students aware of available resources as well as letting them know about important deadlines.
