School Details

The school offered just three programs, Carpentry, Farm Equipment Mechanics, and Machine Shop, when it opened in 1961. Today, the public, 2-year Alexandria Technical and Community College, located in Alexandria, Minnesota, gives students the opportunity to pursue more than 50 programs of study. More than 2,700 students are enrolled in ATCC, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 24:1. Additionally, ATCC enhances the campus experience through extracurricular activities. Intramural athletic programs, like soccer, softball, and flag football, deliver competitive outlets while lectures and leadership programs support personal enrichment. Students can also engage in student organizations, like Collegiate DECA, Business Professionals of America, and Phi Theta Kappa. The Student Life Team also plans and hosts multiple on-campus activities.

Alexandria Technical College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission to award Associate’s degrees and is also accredited by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. Students can complete programs ranging from Associate’s degrees in Business and Accounting to furthering skill sets in Mechatronics and Design & Engineering Technology. Additionally, students can enroll in Associate’s degree programs targeting General Education or follow more specific career paths, like the Transfer Associate’s degrees in Child Development and Computer Information Systems. Alexandria Technical and Community College understands that busy lifestyles and nontraditional students require greater flexibility. Therefore, online opportunities provide a solution. Online coursework retains high academic standards and is also accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. Students have access to individualized attention through personal advocates and the college also provides ongoing technical support. Tuition is generally $160.55 per credit hour for on-campus students, regardless of state residency. However, tuition may vary for individual courses. Tuition for online students is $199 per credit hour.

Eligible students at Alexandria Technical and Community College have access to financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study. Grants include the Federal Pell Grant, Minnesota State Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, along with the Post-Secondary Child Care Grant and the Minnesota Indian Scholarship program. Furthermore, numerous institutional scholarships are available to students, and students may seek awards from external sources. Loan programs include the Federal Direct Subsidized / Unsubsidized Loans, Student Education Loan Fund (Minnesota residents only), the Federal PLUS Loan, and alternative loans.

ATCC also supports the education of qualifying veterans, military personnel, and their families, and students can access information through the Veteran’s Resource Center on-campus and online. In addition to funding through resources, like GI education benefits, ATCC also acknowledges earned credit, including CLEP and DANTES assessments.
