Students pursuing a degree in Health and Medicine can specialize in many types of therapies. Therapy has long been used in the fields of science and healthcare, while being described as the attempt of remediation of a single or combination of health problem. In the medical field, therapy can be used interchangeably with "treatment”.

A Health and Medicine degree program can focus on the many types of therapies offered, or students can choose to specialize in a specific area, such as Physical, Chemotherapy, Psychotherapy or Hydrotherapy. Each type of therapy may explore traditional and non-traditional means of resolving problems. The use of therapy can be broken into three parts: prevention, treatment and a cure.
Prevention of an illness, injury, sickness, or disease by therapy is generally known to be common practice. For example, newborn children are often given preventative medicine for immunizations purposes for diseases such as polio and chickenpox. If an actual ailment still occurs, despite preventative measures, then a treatment will be suggested or administered.

A treatment alleviates an illness, problem or pain until a new and different treatment can be administered or a cure is found to be available. There are many health problems that do not have a cure, such as AIDS and Cancer, but successful treatments are offered to satisfy and remediate the pains of chronic diseases.

The final resolution is to find a cure or improve a medical condition by removing the cause or reversing the affects completely. Cures are a subset of treatments, and can be scarce or abundant dependent on ailment.

Graduates of a higher education in Health and Science with a focus on Therapy will enroll in specific courses intrinsic to the concentration, and will sit for national, state and local examinations and/or certifications required to successfully enter the chosen career field.
