Many schools use admissions tests, like the GMAT or GRE, to gauge the broad skills of students entering many different majors, including business. However, there are many reasons why you may not want to take the GMAT or GRE entrance exam. The good news is that there are many excellent schools that waive this requirement and we have compiled an exhaustive list of online MBA no GMAT required programs.

Graduating from a regionally accredited online MBA program is a great way to boost your credentials to get better jobs and get ahead in your chosen industry. An online MBA makes a very convenient way to get your degree while continuing to work and take care of family responsibilities. To get your MBA degree quickly, an online MBA no GMAT makes this even easier by letting you skip the entrance exam and save time and money.

JUMP TO THE PROGRAM LIST: Online MBA No GMAT Programs

What is Regional Accreditation?

Regional accreditation is the oldest and most respected type of accreditation. Accrediting bodies investigate the schools they accredit to make sure the quality of education is high and that the operating policies are sound. Any program you choose should be from an accredited college or university so that employers will recognize your degree. Regional accreditation bodies are the gold standard when it comes to higher education.

Some online higher education institutions are accredited by national accrediting organizations, which is actually less prestigious or recognized than regional accreditation. For an online MBA no GMAT program to be accepted by employers or future academic institutions, a regionally accredited school is typically required.

Regionally Accredited MBA vs AACSB Accredited MBA

Regional accreditation applies to the college or university you are attending, while programmatic accreditation offers accreditation of the business school offering the online MBA no GMAT program. Programmatic accreditation looks at the individual degree programs in a certain specialty. There are different accreditation organizations for business schools, engineering programs, nursing programs, and so on. You wouldn’t want nurse educators looking at an engineering program to see if the quality of education meets the standards needed to be employed as an engineer. So it is great to have programmatic accreditation agencies that will make sure your business education from an online MBA no GMAT program meets the standards for advancing your career in the business world.

For online MBA programs, no GMAT requirement does not mean that the program won’t also have programmatic accreditation. The most prestigious of these organizations is the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is the oldest agency that works with business schools. For the most competitive jobs and industries, an MBA from an AACSB accredited program is considered the best. But there are other organizations that are well-respected to accredit the programs of business schools, including the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).

Any of the programmatic accreditations of an online MBA program is good, but having the institution that the MBA comes from being regionally accredited is a good baseline to aim for. Ideally, you want your online MBA no GMAT program to have both regional accreditation of the institution, plus programmatic accreditation of the business school. So you could end up choosing a program that is both regionally accredited and accredited by the AACSB or one of the other agencies.

What Are the GMAT & GRE Exams?

Many schools use admissions tests to gauge the broad skills of students entering many different majors, including business. The GMAT, which stands for Graduate Management Admission Test, is used specifically to assess prospective students of business and accounting programs.

Some schools will require either the GMAT or the GRE, which is the Graduate Records Examination, and is taken by students who are taking graduate and professional degrees, including the MBA. It is similar to the GMAT, but tests analytical and quantitative reasoning which can be more broadly applied to different graduate school subjects.

Many students prefer not to take admissions exams due to cost, convenience, or time constraints. For students looking at online MBA no GMAT programs, skipping the step of taking a graduate exam helps you get into a program quicker, without the distraction and time wasted studying for a test.

Since online MBA no GMAT programs are increasing relying on work experience or previous educational attainment to decide if you will be appropriate for their programs, you may already have proven that you are ready for an MBA with your job or school successes. If you have chosen to not take either of these tests, consult our list to find the best online MBA no GMAT options for you to consider.

While compiling our list of the best online MBA no GMAT programs, we looked at a total of 273 schools that offered a total of 1,335 different MBA degree options.

Online MBA Programs: Pros & Cons

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, wage premiums for those with an MBA are anywhere from 36 to 89 percent higher than salaries of bachelor’s degree professionals. And, many occupations require master’s degrees for entry-level positions. This is promising for anyone seeking an MBA.

But getting a higher salary, though important to many people, is not the only reason to invest in an MBA. The curriculum of an MBA program will teach you leadership, financial, marketing, decision-making, and management skills that will help you feel comfortable making the tough calls in the many business situations you will find throughout your career. You will also gain a network of other business professionals to help you in any future endeavors, including your classmates, your professors, and an alumni network from your chosen school. Whether you choose to get a more general MBA or focus on a specialization, an MBA can get you the exact knowledge that you need to change careers or to rise to higher levels in your field.

With online MBAs making it easier than even to continue your regular life while getting a graduate degree, many older or non-traditional students are enrolling in MBA online programs. The increased opportunities and advanced training can make you more agile for a changing work world. With a new set of skills, contacts, and ideas, you never know how far your career can take you. You will have a leg up in competing for many jobs, as well as the skillset to succeed in your own business or expand to new industries that open up as the global marketplace shifts. An MBA may provide challenge, but can often be completed relatively quickly and easily with many of the online degrees that are designed to fit around your busy life.

How to Get the GMAT or GRE Waived

It is becoming more common for business schools to allow applications without the GMAT or GRE for any applicant, but these universities may still have other requirements for applicants. For instance, Bemidji State University doesn’t require GMAT/GRE scores, but they do require that you have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 to apply. Other schools that do not have a GMAT requirement for application include Southern New Hampshire University, Baker University, and many, many more.

Even if the GRE/GMAT is not required, you may submit scores if you would like them to be considered in the admission decision. Some programs—like Purdue University—have paused their requirement for graduate exam scores temporarily because of the testing problems brought on by the pandemic.

For programs that normally require the GMAT scores for admission, you can often waive these requirements if you have either a high enough undergraduate GPA or some number of years of work experience, or a combination of both. Also, having a graduate degree in another subject, or having taken some graduate coursework may also exempt you from the exam requirement. For example, Oklahoma Christian University will waive the GMAT requirement if you have an undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher, or if you have a GPA of 3.0 plus at least five years of work experience, or if you have at least nine credits of graduate coursework completed successfully.

Some programs have multiple ways that you can obtain a waiver of the GMAT requirement. Golden Gate University allows applicants with 5 years of work experience to forgo the GMAT, but also allows waivers for: an undergraduate GPA of 3.2, a CPA license, four years of military service, a graduate degree, or a professional license or designation earned by passing a national exam.

Professional work experience may also be a factor in making prospective MBA students with lower GPAs eligible for admissions, with or without the GMAT. Fitchburg State University suggests that students have a 2.8 GPA to apply. Those with professional work experience can apply even if they have a lower GPA from their undergraduate work.

What you will find if you are looking at online MBA no GMAT programs is that there are numerous programs that will allow you to apply without the GMAT or GRE. If you are hoping to get your online MBA started quickly, you have many choices open to you that will not require you to expend the time, effort, and money to take the GMAT.

How Was This List of Online MBA no GMAT Programs Compiled?

We surveyed 357 online schools offering a total of 1,695 different MBA options to find the best online MBA no GMAT requirement programs. We found 1,557 online MBA programs that do not require GRE or GMAT testing through our research.

There is a reason there are so many degrees in this study. The most recent factors include the COVID-19 Pandemic effect on college admissions processes and the probable, temporary relaxation of entrance requirements several schools are adopting.
