New Online Law Degrees Target Non-Traditional Adult Students

Non-traditional, older students who are interested in environmental law—but who don’t want to become practicing trial lawyers—can now enroll in two new, 100 percent online master degrees offered by Vermont Law School.

Vermont Law is offering a new Online Master of Law Degree (LLM) in environmental law, designed especially for people who are licensed attorneys, but who seek re-tooling in an environmental specialty area.

Another new Vermont Law degree is the Online Master of Environmental Law and Policy. This distance degree has been developed for managers who do not intend to practice trial law but who seek the legal expertise necessary to manage complex environmental projects.

Online Law Schools Inch Closer to ABA Accreditation

The American Bar Association (ABA) is considering new rules that will allow more online law courses to be offered by its accredited residential law schools.

Although the ABA is not expected to fully approve online law schools in the near future, momentum is building for increased acceptance of online courses in the curriculum of ABA-approved residential law schools.

Recent online legal education developments:

1--A group of non-profit law schools is joining forces to develop technology that will make it easier for accredited residential schools to offer quality online and blended distance education courses. 

2--Professors from Harvard Law School and Vermont Law School are organizing fall 2011 closed-door meetings with non-profit law school representatives to iron out a list of best practices for online legal education.
